Ok another question: My daughter is 4 1/2 months and she just recently started breaking out around her face. I tried changing to a fragrance free soap but she is still having break outs. I thought maybe I was kissing her too much?? I don't know what to do, I am really at a lost....

Hi D.,

It's me again, T..

Both of my kids had the same problem (my son worse than my daughter). The got red, rough, dry patches on their face, along with little pimples.

I tried to wash their face with Aveeno baby wash (instead of plain water), I didn't wear perfume, etc, but nothing seemed to fix it. However, they outgrew it. By the time they were about 6 months old, it was gone. My mom called it baby acne and told me that many babies get it.

So, I wouldn't worry about it unless it looks like it is making her uncomfortable.

Hi D.:

It's me C., I hope some of what I wrote to you was helpful before.
OK, as far as this new development. Is madison teething and drooling a lot? The excess moisture can cause the iritation. It happened to my Daughter. Also, how about detergents that you use to wash her clothes? Bibs, wash cloths, towels, sheets anything that comes in contact with her face?
You don't use wipes to wipe her face do you?

If I think of anything else I'll write back.
Oh, how about what you use on your face or clothes? Does rub her face against yours a lot? Or lay he face on your shoulder coming in contact with your clothes that have been washed in different detergent than hers?

Hope this helps, C.

My daughters both have sensitive skin. The youngest with a mild excema. Avenno brand soap was recommended and for tough break outs Eucerin lotion. I also used Clinique daily lotion it's yellow in a small bottle. That worked the best on my oldest daughters face. We used it as early as 3 months old on her face. Hope this helps. : ) M.

WE HAD THAT PROBLEM. IT WAS TWO THINGS. MILKBUMPS-AND DETERGENT. TRY DREFT. ITS IN A PINK BOX, A LITTLE MORE EXPENSIVE, BUT IT WORKS WONDERS. SOMETIMES BABIES TEND TO LET THE MILK DRAIN SOME ON THEIR FACE, MAKE SURE YOU WIPE IT AS SOON AS YOU NOTICE, EVEN WHILE THEY'RE EATING. THEIR SKIN IS ALOT MORE SENSITIVE THAN OURS!

My son had this problem to. First of all make sure you wash everything in dreft (I know its expensive), her clothes, everyone shirts, bedding, towels, wash clothes etc. Try washing your babys body with Dove unscented soap, but use NO soap on her face. Just a wet washcloth. Also make sure you are not wiping her face with baby wipes ever. After her bath use Eucerin creme on her rash. My sons cleared up within 4 days after following this regimin. I knew what to do because my daughter had this problem when she was their age. Hope this helps.

Hi D.,
My daughter was getting baby acne, mostly on her chin and once in while one or two on her cheeks. I started putting lotion on her face and that seems to have cut way back on how often she breaks out. I use the Aveeno Baby on her face - it's not as thick and greasy as the regular Johnson's lotion, and it absorbs fast. Also, I read one of the other moms suggested using Dreft - Purex has a laundry detergent for babies as well, which is what I use. It works just as well, and is cheaper.

Hi D.. It sounds like Dreft is a good way to go but if it seems too expensive to you , you could do what I've been using fo years with wonderful success. Combine equal parts borax and baking soda and mix well. If you like a scent, you could add an all natural essential oil that you can find at health food store. You can find borax at Publix in the laundry section and I have found large quantities of baking soda at Sam's and Walmart. Avoid the "washing soda" in the laundry dept. as it is in fact scented. The box doesn't indicate but when you open it, it's apparent.

Hi again, D.... :) It could be the soap. My pediatrician had me use Cetaphil. It's very, very mild. My daughter was getting a rash after her baths from the Aveeno, and the Cetaphil worke great. Also, if you have started her on any foods at all yet, it could be a reaction. It even could be something so minor as fabric that touches her face (blankets, spit cloths, etc.) or the detergent you are using on those things that touch her face. Dreft is supposed to be a really mild detergent for laundry for babies. Good luck!

Sounds like it maybe baby acne, 50% of infants gets it, it's usually harmless and will go away eventually (as long as it does not seem to be bothering her). Show it to the pediatrician for a + diagnosis.

Don't worry. My daughter did the same thing at 3 months. She's now 2 1/2. It's called baby acne. I freaked out. But apparently it's supposedly my hormones leaving or escaping her body. It will pass. My daughter was broken out for about two weeks and it disappeared. A lot of other babies experience this too. Don't worry. I put cornstarch on her face. She looked so cute. But I've been told nothing helps it. It's from the inside out. Keep the kisses coming.
