I am looking for simple, charming ideas for my daughter's birthday party. I am hoping to have the party outside at our home and to somehow incorporate pictures of her over the course of the last twelve months. Thanks in advance for your help.

What can I do next?

For my daughters 1st Birhtday party I order a bunch of pictures from KODAK to sort of highlight special moments, people etc. I got a display board (black foam) from Target. My cousin and I cut out pictures and made a collage. Everyone LOVED IT, even Breanna. Its hanging in my home now and Bre looks at it everyday. I hung it up at the party too and it was a hit. It was alot of work but its super special! Good luck!

On my son's first birthday I had a quilt made. I bought quilt squares and had everyone decorate one. Or you could have each family decorate one or have everyone put handprints or whatever you would like on quilt squares. For smaller children I would suggest ironing on different pictures and they can color those. You could also have other parents help do this. You can use fabric markers, puff paints in many different colors. You can also make smaller squares for childrens that might not look as well(small children) and that way they aren't a big eyesore or a big scribble in the middle or your quilt. Then after his birthday I had picked out some pictures from over the first year of his life and had them put on squares and also some of my favorite clothing items of his. I then had a quilt made from all of these items and now he has a keepsake for life. Also, if there are squares that you feel you don't really want to put on your quilt you can make a small scrapbook with those in it. Another suggestion is to take a picture of everyone with your child individually or a group party photo to add to the quilt. The adults who don't decorate could all write a nice message to the child. Kind of like a autograph book well quilt..lol If you don't sew there are companies all over that make quilts. They usually aren't too expensive but, even if is a little it is so worth it and it will be around forever. Just an idea. Hope it helps..Another idea is pick one of your favorite pictures of her and put in a black or white matting and have all the guests sign the mat. After the party you can frame makes for a wonderful keepsake as well.

Pick a theme first, and the rest will be easy. There are a million birthday party sites for suggestions. Maybe a princess? Or a pirate? Butterflies? Hearts? Kittens?

Who are you inviting? Just family members? Others with little kids? Other babies.

How many are coming over? Lots? A few?

What time of day do you want the party? Will you serve food? A meal or just snacks?

Let us know the theme, and I'll write some more concrete suggestions.

Best wishes,
K.
