Both my daughters had reflux. We found out with the first one when she was 4 days old after staying up all night watching her because I was scared she was going to choke. The other daughter was diagnosed with it before she ever left the hospital. Anyway, they were both put on Zantac & Reglan and both of them out grew it within in a few months, especially once we started adding solids to their menu. It will also help some if you leave her sitting up in her carrier or swing for about 15 mins or so right after feeding. Just not lying down. Hope this helps some.

Try letting her sit up to drink, my first was a big spitter upper and this made a huge difference and I just did it with the other 3 and they never had the issue.

My pedi then (13 yrs ago!) said imagine an air bubble and then the formula on top of it...when you work the bubble up, the formula comes first. So you want to avoid the air. They have bottles that are suppose to eliminate air intake too. I used those Johnson and JOhnson Healthflow bottle (I don't even know if they still make them) but the neck is crooked and that seemed to help keep him from getting as much air too.

Sitting him up to drink was a huge difference!

Good luck..

My son had the exact same problem but worse, he would projectial vomit. We tried different meds and also had a sonogram and swallow study. We found out that his gastroesophageal junction (area between the esphagus and stomach) was immature and that would cause formula to come up. We just had to use bibs all the time. We did find that baby gas drops helped a little bit. we also didn't burp our son until he was done with his full bottle and then burped him really well. But your daughter will grow out of it.

Good Luck and Congrats,
J.

My daughter's gradually got worse and she did start crying after a burp, or for no reason (so it appeared) etc. That is when we put her on Prevacid. There is not much you can do but burp, keep prop up for 30 minutes after feeding (swing, bouncer, etc). You will know if she needs meds....there is a distinct difference.

How often does your baby burp? I would try burping after every ounce of milk consumed. Try having her sit on your lap, while one hand supports her chest and head, and the other hand pats her on the back, hopefully the sitting position will move the little bubbles up and out. If that doesn't do the trick, position, her over your shoulder to where your breast is pressing against her abdomen. This pressure may help to press the bubbles up and out. I would be diligent about getting those burps out. I'd also let her take her time on sucking that bottle down so the milk can settle. Talk and play with her when the bottle isn't in the mouth so she'll be distracted. If you find that the burping doesn't help, and slowing her feedings down doesn't help - I'd go back and solicit the doctor for another option. I've heard of a remedy of sugar water in the bottle, but I've never tried it - so I can't recommend it. You might google it and see what is said about it.

Both of my children had this problem, but they could be on one sid of the room and hit the wall on the other side. My daughter had acid reflux and she was put on zantac for it she finally out grew it at about 16 months. My son at three weeks we(the dr and i) said he had the same. We put him on Zantac and it helped buy not enough. By the time he was one month and 2 days my dr saw him again and she said it could be three things.1.viral-but he had it for over 14 days so we rulled it out. 2.acid reflux-but he was already on Zantac at the strongest dose for his size. 3.poloris stenosis(don't know if it is spell correct)-that is the muscle at the bottom of the stomach that is over grown and would not let food go past. My son had a sono that afternoon and they called the dr from there and the dr refered me to Dr. Meyer in Austin. My son had surgery that night to fix it. It was actually fairly simple. He still had acid reflux after the surgery and has just out grown it at 16mo. Piloris Stenosis is most common in first born males, but I have now heard of it in females too. You can check with your dr to see if it is possible this is the problem.
If you have any other ?'s about this I can try to help you as much as possible.

A traditional Mexican remedy for baby indigestion is chamomile tea. In fact, it is given to babies at birth routinely to help move meconium. It is also used for indigestion in adults. I'd definitely try that before medication. It doesn't sound from your post that you are really that concerned that your baby has a problem. Maybe just a bit messy? Of course you have a great idea to work with quantity first.... Well, nine weeks old is bitty, I'm sure she is a sweet blessing.

My son spit up until he was 1. He had reflux, but since it did not seem to bother him and he was gaining weight we decided to forgoe the medication. Since you are doing all the recommended burping and minimizing the amount of formuala she has at feedings, I would that she probably does have a small bout of reflux. Most children will grow out of it around age one. Unless she is bothered by it, I would not medicate her. Just put her in a bib and have lots of spare burp rags handy. This too shall pass!!

My first daughter spit up a lot after every feeding and she did so for 9 months. I breastfeed and she never fussed about spitting up, so I was fine with it. The Dr. was fine with it. I never tried to keep her from eating less nor did I change our feeding schedule. My mom said I was the same way when I was an infant. I don't see it as a bad thing that needs medication to try to fix. I just carried towels to catch the spit up and lots of extra clothes. Actually most of the time she spit up she missed herself and it would end up on the floor. I learned quickly which way to face her when I burped her. My other 2 children didn't spit up at all.

My oldest boy had the same problem he did it from the day he was born, he did it so much i had to do his laundry everyday sometimes twice a day because of how much he spit up on everything one day it got to the point i only used blankets on him i didnt get him dressed unless i had too, but anyway they did some tests and he got put on Nutramigin formula and a med called regaland for the reflux which all helped out some, we also had to burp him every 1/2 to full ounce. When he was about a year old he had a swallow study done because he was still having problems, and i cant remember the name of what it was he had right now sorry:(, just to much to try to remember, anyway he had to have a thickener in everything i had to make it as thick as honey. I hope this helps. Good Luck, i hope you find something that works for yall, i know its uncomfortable for you and her too.

My son has been plagued with this too. He has spit up/projectile vomitted since birth. As a previous post talked about, we had my little guy tested for pyloric stenosis too because my husband had it when he was an infant. If your child is gaining weight she almost certainly does not have pyloric stenosis. It sounds like your baby is a "happy spitter." My baby has GERD and is on Prevacid. If your baby has acid reflux you would know it. It is horrible....My son would scream uncontrollably and arch his back and you could hear him spitting up (sometimes he spits other times he doesn't). He was inconsolable! The medicine has helped tremendously. If your daughter seems happy, it is really a laundary issue! I would not put her on meds if she is overall a happy baby! Good luck

My middle child had the same problem the dr didn't wanna change his milk so what I did was put Oatmeal Cereal in almost every bottle. It worked even though I knew that was to much cereal for a baby. What you should do is try to give a little at a time just to see if it works for your baby. They say you not suppose to give cereal but I had to do something, and my giving him cereal in each bottle it helped but only put a little bit.

Try switching formula if you are using formula. Go to a gentler one. There are sites with formula comparisons. Enfamil makes a formula specifically for reflux. Enfamil AR I believe.
ANyway... If your child is not crying or reacting, it may not be reflux as that typically is uncomfortable. My son was on reflux med at 2 months, but he was so uncomfy. It was horrid. That doesn't mean she doesn't have it... but it may just be a reaction to dairy or the formula or if you are breastfeeding, to something you are eating.
I was going to suggest lessening the amount, which your pedi already did.
I would say also burp more AND never lay her down after. Sit her in the swing or something.
GOOD LUCK!

My first son spit up a lot. We'd go through 7-8 cloths and 2-3 changes of clothes a day.

You didn't say whether you were breastfeeding or not. I breastfed and he was sensitive to the things I ate. A lot of people will tell you this isn't an association, but I know from experience that it is. I'd pump milk while at work and I had to label it with what I ate (found pizza grease in there once, yuck) and some vitamins even turned it green!

Anyway, since we was sensitive to things I ate, I just avoided those things (milk, pizza grease). We used a lot of Mylacon drops as well. They help with gas.

Hello T.,
My son spit up a lot when he was a newborn. We had to switch his formula several times and finally got to the lactose-free kind and it was much better for him. Also, it helped if we burped him periodically during feedings, like every ounce of so. Hope this helps! :)
