My 7 month old son has gas pain alot, and it makes him miserable. He is fomula fed. I have tried every different kind of formula made, and currently have him on Soy formula. It seems to work the best. I think he has a milk intollerance but he still has gas pain. I give him gas drops as well but still with the tummy troubles. I feel awful for my little guy and need some suggestions please. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

First off, thank you for the many responses. Some were helpful and I thank you for that.

I have to say to all you who said formula is bad for my son and I should be breast feeding him: I DID breast feed him for almost 6 months but certain circumstances didnt allow for longer or else I would have. He has had gas problems since day one, not just since I have had to start giving him formula. I dont believe that formula is bad, yes I would rather nurse him but things happen and sometimes you cant, which is why formula was invented.

Anyways, I have changed his solid food diet a bit, giving him oatmeal which he loves, and tried giving him less green foods, and also have found hylands colic tablets which are for gas pains, teething etc. Those and some other things have helped alot so far so hopefully will continue to.

I thank all of you for your help :)

Hyland's remedies, they have little gas tablets. I believe they are concentrated chamomile. Worked great for my daughter.

Put him on a probiotic for little ones, like Primadophilous or Bifidus. Use a powdered probiotic and mix it into his formula. Make sure to give him a daily dose. It will help tremendously with the gas pain.

We started my son on a probiotic at 2 wks because he had the worst gas pains. Worked like a charm. My kids 3 and 5 still take a daily probiotic.

Try laying him on his back and moving his legs in circles like he is riding an imaginary bicycle. That always helped my son get his toots out.

you didin't mention food.. is he eating baby food? i know my son had really bad gas with peas and green veggies.. so i just avoided them.. stayed with orange veggies like sweet potatoes - squash.. he ate watermelon pieces, bananas... and don't give him barley cereal... barley is gassy... give him oatmeal or oatmeal mixed baby cereal... good luck..

Whether you are breastfeeding your baby or he is on some formula, gas can occur and made him uncomfortable. Babies magic tea is the natural tea that soothes babies even in their first day.

Mylicon drops or generic mylicon drops -- they are safe to give a newborn. They break down the gas and help relieve that tight "Frog Belly" babies and kids can have.

Definitely a life saver. Babies digestion systems are incomplete and sometimes gas is unavoidable.

Good luck!

have you tried similac alimentum (this contains dairy, but the molecules have been broken down so they are more manageable - both my kids had issues and this was the formula that was recommended)? some soy formulas still contain dairy.

my 6 mo. old has horrible gas too..... i've found that now that he moves around a lot more, it works itself out during the day. good luck!

Well, obviously, he needs breast-milk. Soya retards growth and is h*** o* digestion long term. You can make some almond milk or, the best, get RAW goat or cow milk from a local organic farmer. You will think a miracle happened
when you see how your baby improves. Raw milk can be purchased directly from organic farmers and comes from clean animals who roam freely in a clean environment with no pathogens possible.

As long as he has teeth try feeding him rice cream mixed with Soy formula.
Get him away from milk and cheese and yogurt until he's done teething. While chamomile is a good remedy for babies with gas. I would take him to a homeopath to find an individual remedy for him. There are homeopathic books for moms by Dana Ullman or Barry Rose and a host of other fine homeopaths.
I would make a tisane (very light tea) of peppermint and chamomile and see if that worked. Tea bags are dipped for only one minute in hot water. Then cool it and give the bottle to your son.
Your son would have been better off on breast milk from the beginnning. If you have another child in the future try that as milk allergies run in families. It would be just terrible to have to face that and the later allergies that develop when a child begins with milk allergies.
Cows milk is for cows. We humans are less and less able to digest it since we don't live on farms. Once you have gotten away from living with cows for four generations the milk allergies come.
I also feel that formula has too many unnatural ingredients in it that does not need to be fed to a baby.
I kept goats for many years and milked them so my children could have milk yogurt and cheese from an animal whose milk was the closest the human milk.

My daughter had bad gas issues too at that age. We used the mylicon drops, we also watched what she ate. No broccoli for her. We did a lot of tummy rubs, laying on her back and moving her legs up and down like she riding a bike. For us, my husband was able to gently bounce with one hand on her tummy to help push some of the gas out. It was a difficult period for us to go through, but we survived. It just seems so painful and hard to watch them go through it. She did eventually grow out of it, though I think periodically gets fussy when a gas bubble forms. At this age, they just don't know what to do about it. Good luck.

You are giving him lots of foreign substances that normally banies do not have in their diet. Take him to someone who knows about natural baby care. We go to Dr. Palmeri, she's great ###-###-####. I'm sure she could help you out. Good luck.

The premixed formula always caused less gas than the powder for us.

Microwave a small hand towel til warm (not too hot!) and put it over his tummy as you rock him.
