About two months ago, my 5 yr old daughter complained pain from her right ear, i bought some over the counter drops in the following 2 days she was feeling well. She never mentioned it again. I started noticing she was having problems hearing and she raises her voice when she has a conversation. This morning at was told by her school she failed her hearing exam from the same ear. Would that be dangerous to her, could she had lost her hearing?. Please advise, looking for an affordable ENT doctor between Desoto and Dallas.

Make an appt with your pediatrition. Both of my kids have allergies which effect their ears. My daughter has failed the hearing test and then passed it when she was retested a month later. She may have an ear infection or fluid on the ear and both of these issues can cause hearing problems. Their is no need for you to get overly worried just yet.

When I was 5 (I'm 42 now), I failed my hearing test. My mom took me to our doctor and he discovered that I had a large amount of wax built up in both ears. As soon as it was removed, I was good. I now have what my husband calls "bat ears"; I can hear far too many things.

Go to her pediatrician before you go to an ENT. If her doc says she needs more than routine care, see who he recommends.

Most likely she had a 'screening' at school--maybe not a complete hearing test? Follow up with her pediatrician as soon as you can.

Make sure you go to an ENT with an audiologist in office, that way she can get a complete hearing test that day. It could just be fluid or wax.

She could still have fluid in her ear, causing her not to hear very well. My daughter kept getting ear infections. She was 2 and didn't say some sounds very well. Once the ear tubes were put in, it was like night and day. She could say the sounds better, since I think she was hearing better. I'd take her to the pediatrician to make sure there isn't an ear infection in there, and ask for referrals to an ENT too.

Sounds like it was a routine screening. I failed one as a child myself. Just take her to the pedi to make sure she does not have an ear infection and fluid in her ear. Then I would get a recommendation from the pedi for an ENT and have her thoroughly checked out.

Good luck
