My 5 year old son has his Christmas concert. He was all excited to go until right before and he said he didn't want to go. But we went anyway. He had a great time during the concert and sang along jsut great. The he watched the first graders sing--and sitting with his class he went to leave and threw up all over teh guy floor--he was then crying and very upset. He usually always gets sick at his birthday party every year too. Any ideas on how we might help him?

What can I do next?

My son gets anxious to although he doesnt throw up. Ive noticed when he singing in front of a crowd I keep seeing him take big breaths and he acts nervous even though he says hes not LOL!! Just try to talk with him before the play concert etc. Be positive with him try to do something to relax him. I bet he gets the stomach jitters. I do when Im nervous and I feel nauseated. I take deep breaths to calm down.

First, browse this website: http://www.emofree.com/articles.aspx?id=9

There are many articles on using EFT to defeat anxiety in children. One thing you can try is tapping (you can print out a EFT chart at http://www.sudsywudsysoap.com/eft - click on it to enlarge, then print) right before stressful events. This is not something he (or you) has to live with.

Good luck and I hope things improve quickly! :)

I did this until my doctor prescribed an acid reducer. Sometimes I would sneak a Di-gel instead because my mother thought I was going to get addicted to the acid reducer.

Relataction techniques taught by my choir instructor helped as well although she told me I probably grew out of it.

do you normally feed him a full meal before these types of events? i would try the relaxation techniques already mentioned as well as a "rehearsal" type situation so he will become familiar with what to expect. i'm not sure if this will help, but maybe try not to feed him full meals before these types of events that make him nervous. if he gets hungry, pack him a snack in your purse for immediately after the event. good luck!

If I was in this situation I would discuss with his teacher to possibly make a class discusion about the scenerio. Maybe have the entire class speak up about what makes each child nervous and try to make it something that help him relate to other classmates so maybe next time he won't be so nervous
