My friend's little girl lost her teeth in preschool too. She was a big girl though. There was even another girl in her class that lost her tooth at the same time. Did he get his teeth early? I think the earlier they get them, the earlier they lose them. I'm no dentist but I think he'll be fine.

Hi, both my girls lost their first couple of teeth at 4 as well. When it happened with my older daughter I took her to the dentist and he said it was perfectly normal. Both of my daughters also started getting their teeth early, I think that has something to do with it. She is the envy of her preschool class because she was the first to get a visit from the tooth fairy!

The same thing happened to my daughter. She is 5 now and has lost 4 teeth. I was worried when she lost her first tooth and immediately called the dentist who told us that she would be just fine. They are starting to come in now.

My daughter was over one years old when she got her first tooth. In Kindergarden they had a tooth chart to see who would loose the most teeth. She did not loose any. It wasn't until the end of her first grade that she lost a tooth. She was the last one in her class. She is eight now and in second grade and has not lost both her front teeth yet. They all are different. Maybe your son got his teeth early so maybe they will come out early. I would not worry about it though.

I have worked with pre-k and kindergarten aged children for many years now. Four year olds can and do lose teeth. if you look it up it says that children anywhere from 4-7 start to lose their baby teeth. However if your child has not been to visit a dentist already, now would be a great time to start.

I wouldn't worry too much. My son lost his first tooth when he was four also. He's in first grade now, and most of his friends are just starting to lose teeth and he has a mouth full of adult teeth! Everyone is different. But bring it up with your dentist if you are still concerned.

Don't worry so much. Every kid is different. My daughter just turned 5 this month and has already lost three teeth w/#4 on it's way out. Did your child start getting teeth early? My daughter started getting teeth @ 4 months. You may want to find a dentist since "big kid" teeth will soon be on the way.
Good luck!

I'm a teacher and have 1 or 2 4-yr-old students who lost their teeth this semester. I was surprised as well but when you think about it these days 4th graders look like they're 16 so maybe with modern nutrition people are just growing fast. Talk to your dentist and see if it's normal, but I wouldn't worry too much. Hey better to lose them early than late!

My older daughter started losing teeth at four. Seems like when one falls out then either one or a couple more go. My younger daughter didn't start until 5 1/2. They both have beautiful teeth. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. But he should already be going to the dentist regularly. If he is, then you can just ask about it at his next checkup.

Six years old may be the ideal time for children to start losing teeth but that's not always the case. Children can start losing teeth before they turn six but it doesn't mean something's wrong with them. I myself lost my first tooth when I was three and I'm just fine.

My daughter started loosing her baby teeth when she was 4 years old as well. I think every child is very different. She was done teething when she was 1 year old. She is now going to be 9 in June and she has 10 adult teeth already. My son, however, will be 6 in June and he hasn't even begun loosing teeth. I say it's just your son's time to start loosing his baby teeth. Give it some time and if you don't see an adult tooth showing itself, then go ahead and make an apt. with dentist. Good luck.

Everyone's different. When I was a child, I started losing my teeth at age 4 1/2. I had all my adult teeth in before age 11 and was in (and out) of braces during the 5th and 6th grades. My oldest daughter, now 6 1/2, lost her first tooth within 5 days of the same exact age I was when I lost my first tooth. She has now lost 8 of them, and 6 adult ones have grown in. Her little sister, almost 5, has lost 2 (and has some adult ones growing in behind and in front of her baby teeth, instead of right on top of the, but that's another issue.) Anyway, 6 is just an "average." For every early kid, there's some poor 8 year old out there wondering when he'll finally lose that first tooth.

Don't worry! Did he get his teeth early as a baby? My son started losing his teeth when he was 4. He's now 6 and has lost a total of 8 teeth. He also had most of his baby teeth by the time he was 1. If he got them early, he'll lose them early.

Hi there! Don't worry about the teeth issue. My daughter (now 12) lost four teeth at age four and it was perfectly normal. She actually started getting teeth very early, lost them a little earlier than average, and got her adult teeth that much sooner. What is nice is that at age 12, she will get her braces off in a month! I would recommend starting dental care for your son. There are some great pediatric dentists out there. I recommend Small Smiles in Naperville.

My son is 6 and has already lost 5 teeth since last summer. It is not uncommon for kids to start losing teeth at the age of 4. I know a little girl who was able to get braces at the age of 9 because she already had all of her adult teeth. Four is a good age for the first dental check up if you have not already done so.

Dear H.,

I practice general dentistry in Franklin Park. While 6-7 is generally the age when many children loose the frist primary tooth, my daughters were closer to eitht when they lost there first tooth. Remenber 6-7 is just an average age. We can take a panoramic x-ray to see how the permanent teeth are developing. Regardless, your child should have had his first check-up at about two years of age. If you need any more information, please contact me at ###-###-####.

Welcome to my world! Yep, I have a 4 year old girl who also starting losing teeth. She is five now and has already lost the two bottom front teeth. Remember, don't panic, they could just be quicker at some things than other kids. My daughter does go to the dentist and has since she turned four (recommended by them), he sees nothing abnormal. For peace of mind, I would see the dentist, even if is is to just sit him in the chair, take a couple x-rays, they look at the teeth and send you home, he has the experience of being in the chair and you have peace of mind. Amazing how fast they grow these days. Both my girls started losing their teeth at 4. God Bless!

Our second oldest daughter didn't lose her first tooth until she was almost 7. She is almost 9 & has lost 6 baby teeth. Everyone is different.

Hi H.,

When did your son get his first tooth? If he got his teeth early, then he'll lose his teeth early. At least that's what I've been told.

My neighbor's daughter lost her first two teeth at 4 3/4 years of age, yet another friend's daughter will be 7 in October and has yet to lose one. My daughter lost her first tooth at 5 1/2.

Call your dentist if you're worried. I'm sure they can tell you over the phone if it's normal.

Best of luck!!!

Hi H.,

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter also started losing her teeth at the age of 4. I was also worried, but the dentist said that it was ok for children to start losing teeth at such an early age & also said that she would probably develop in other areas early too. Have you looked to see if the adult teeth are starting to push through yet? You may want to do that just to make sure & if not, it probably wouldn't hurt to see the dentist just to be safe.

From experience with my daughter, I believe the teeth fall out based on when they came in. If they got them early, the lose them early, if they got them late, they lose them late.

My daughter got her teeth relatively early, then lost them early. However, she has been going to a pediatric dentist since she was 3 due to lack of enamel on her molars.

I wouldn't be too worried about the loss of his teeth but I would recommend taking him to get a check-up and a cleaning. The earlier you do it, the less traumatic it is. We go to Orland Park Dentistry for Children, in Orland Park. Dr. Patty Liston-Gannon.

Hope this helps.

Every child is different. My son did not even get his first tooth till he was over a year old. But I do think that 4 is a little young. And if remember right they usually don't loose teeth right next to each other first. Do you see the other tooth coming through.. It is when the new tooth starts to push to come through the baby tooth falls out.
If it was me I think I would just make a short call to the dentist. It could not hurt, better to be safe than sorry.

Best Wishes,
S.

Don't be too alarmed, some kids loose their teeth earlier than others. I am a dentist and I would advise taking him to see your family dentist as he should have a regular check-up and cleaning by this age. Based on what the dentists sees they may want to take a simple small x-ray of the area to visualize the underlying adult teeth. They will be able to make sure that everything is okay with the permanent teeth and that nothing else is causing the baby teeth to fall out prematurely. When the tooth fell out, did it have any root structure left or was it just a crown? The dentist will want to examine the tooth that fell out so that he/she can determine if it fell out prematurely. The roots of baby teeth resorb as the permanent teeth erupt underneath them (i.e. when the baby tooth falls out it should have just the crown with very little to no root structure).

Dear H.,

I wouldn't worry about it. Some kids loose their teeth a little early. My niece lost hers at 4 as well. By the time she went to kindergarten she already had 4 permanent front teeth. Top(2) and bottom(2). Lucky for your son, he gets a visit from the tooth fairy before most kids. Something cool to share with friends. My 5 1/2 year old son can't wait to get a visit from the tooth fairy. No loose tooth yet.

Hope this helps.

You should start taking kids to the dentist at 3 years of age, at least for a checkup. Teeth can start to become loose at 4 years of age, the average is from 5-6 with most being at 6 but its not unheard of to loose them at 4. If the teeth were turing black before they fell out, then thats a concern. If not, hes just probably going to be one of those kids who lose teeth early. Nothing wrong with that! Trish PS I am a dental assistant if you have any futher questions, let me know!
