This is the first time that my 3yrs old got fever yesterday without any other symptom of cold or cough. All day her body was hot but i did not realized that it was fever until before bedtime i checked it. First i put thermometer under her underarm and it showed 99.77 degree F. Then i put it in her mouth as my husband believes underarm does not show the actual fever and before it could beep she removed it as she was not comfortable with it. So it stopped at 100.07 degree F before showing actual temperature. I gave her Crocin syrup(i got this from India when my in-laws visited us last yr)as it is simple temporary fever reducer medicine. I have Tylenol cold plus, flue and fever reducer but i gave her Crocin because she only have fever and no other symptoms. Today morning when i again checked her fever under her underarm it is again 99.73 degree F. She did not agree to put the thermometer in her mouth. I know this is first time am asking her to take it in her mouth as i trust her she will not chew it. She is playing normal. My question is-is there some kind of fever season going on which am not aware of? Can i give her Tylenol even when she has no cold, cough or runny nose?
I want to add that yesterday whole day she said am tired and i just want to lie down. I spent my whole day with her leaving the chores so that she should not get irritated because of fever. Although we enjoyed our time together but it seems medicine is not working. Her temperature rose to 101.76 degree F when i checked in between. I noticed she is feeling physically weak and otherwise in the middle of the night when she was awake was chirping like a little bird. And i saw some symptoms of runny eyes and nose last evening. How can i know that she has a sore throat?
Thanks for your responses!

It sounds like a pretty low fever, which my kids have had before without other symptoms too. I wouldn't give her Tylenol at this point unless she's acting not as playful and you can tell it's affecting her. It's better to buy the regular Motrin & Tylenol without the cold or flu added ingredients. That way if later down the road you do need to keep a fever down you can alternate the Motrin & Tylenol without overdosing on the cold/flu medications in them. Buy a product that does the cold/flu symptoms separate.

I would call your pediatrician's office and speak to the triage nurse there. They can tell you what virus' are going around right now and what you should be doing to keep your daughter comfortable. My son ran a high fever with a headache when he was 5 for 9 days with no other symtoms. Once the fever subsided, the goopy eyes and stuffed up nose came. It was all a virus that was going around. I also have both the ear thermometer and the one that runs across the forehead. I prefer the one that runs across the forehead, you can even take their temperature while they are sleeping w/o waking them. I know they sell them at Wal-mart. Good luck & hope she feels better.

might be a sign of strep or hand, foot, mouth. Strep is associtated with sore throat and stomach ache. Hand, foot, mouth is associated with sores in mouth, sore throat and a rash on hands, feet and maybe back. If the fever doesn't break within 4 or 5 days I'd call the doc. Keep giving her the tylenol and plenty of liquids.

One of my three kids would run a lowgrade fever once in a while with no other symptoms. Our pediatrician said it was an indication that his body was fighting something and to let it fight unless the temp got higher--say 102 or more. Kids can handle higher temperatures than adults and that is what their bodies use to fight an infection so it's OK NOT to give them medication to bring the fever down. As our son got older, the doc ran some tests and figured out that it was a urinary tract infection. No problem any more.

My daughter has ALWAYS run a fever when she gets a new tooth. So, this is always a possibility. Also, it could just be a virus with no other symptoms. Your daughters fever isn't all that high. So, I really wouldn't worry too much, if she is still playing normal and all. If you really want to bring the fever down however, instead of medication, there is a product called: "Be Kool" gel patches, that go on her forehead. They REALLY work!!! (and without the medication) However, a slight fever is okay to have as it is her bodies way of fighting off germs. Also, I would recommend getting one of the thermometers that goes in the ear or rolls across the forehead. That way you won't have to worry about getting her to keep it in her arm. These thermometers take the temp. so quickly and painlessly and are quite accurate too.

There is a homeopathic remedy called Belladonna which you might try. It comes in a 6C or 30C potency. 30C is a higher potency, but either should be okay for a 3 year old.

Give a dose every 15 minutes for an hour. That should bring the fever down and hopefully, the illness will be brought out with it. Whatever it is, her body is working great to get it out!

I don't use Tylenol unless the natural remedies aren't working. Tylenol suppresses the illness where the natural remedies (like Belladonn) bring the illness out.
Good luck,

My son had same thing, low grade fever and no other symptoms. The doctor did not know what it was, just some virus. My friends, son also had it (no exposure between the two) and same results, just a virus. I would give either regular Tylenol (without the extra cold stuff) or motrin to keep her comfortable and if it continues through the weekend, take her to her doctor. If any other symptoms develop like sore throat, take her right away cause strep throat is making the rounds.

My 3 yr old daughter has had about 4 of these fevers. They've never turned into anything. I know that a mild fever is a good thing. Your childs body is fighting something. Let the fever tackle it. I've not given her anything and it goes away and she's absolutely fine. Obviously, if it gets higher something would have to be done.
Good luck
