Thank you to everyone that has responded to my issue. You have no idea how much it is appreciated. To answer a few questions, yes she does use the potty, on occasion. However, since swallowing the marble, I have stuck to just diapers to be able to check them sufficiently when she goes. I especially want to say thank you to Shannon R. Just you saying that it took 4 weeks for your child to pass a marble helped me to relax just a bit. My daughter is the same kind of picky eater unless it is something she is not supposed to have. I know that it is a smooth round object, and I should not worry if she is not showing any signs of discomfort. Its just so very stressful waiting it out, especially when its been a week with no results. Thank you again for everyone who shared their experiences, gave their advise, and support. I will keep everyone posted.

My 2yr old daughter swallowed a marble one week ago. I have checked every potty she has made all week, and no marble. Im sure, as most everyone I have asked, that it will pass through and she will be just fine. Im curious to how long a marble may take to go through her? Like I said it has been one week and nothing. She has also shown no warning signs either. Should I be more concerned?
Her Dr. has been out for the Holidays, and the nurse I spoke with said that we can schedule an apt for when the Dr. gets back in a week, which is today, but no one is in for the weekend so I have to wait until Monday. I know that's only 2 more days away, but then that means it will be 9 days without the marble coming out. Is it normal for the body to take that long or longer to push a marble out? She shows no signs at all that anything could be bothering her. she eats regular, drinks regular, and uses the bathroom as normal as always. I don't want to be the scared mother making a big deal out of nothing, but I cant help but be worried when every potty break produces no marble.

What can I do next?

If she's pooping on the potty, it's possible you missed it. My son did the same thing - it took at least 4 days, maybe more. I can't really remember. But no problems. it's round and will go right through. Keep her hydrated and get as much fiber in her as possible.

We got an x-ray, and the sucker was literally right at the end of his large intestine on it's way to the exit.

No no don't Xray her, it's just a marble. It will come out.

My daughter swallowed a flat marble (the kind people put in vases with flowers). It took FOUR WEEKS to pass. That was a lot of sifting... but I couldn't let it go, I just had to make sure it re-appeared... you know what I mean... so I understand that part. But just be patient, it could definitely take longer than a week.

My daughter was a very picky eater at the time (but obviously non-discriminatory about what small chokeable items she put in her mouth, go figure) and I think the fiber intake was an issue at the time. You might have better luck moving things along with some dietary modifications...

I am a daycare provider and one of my little guys swallowed a marble while playing a game at home. Mom asked me to check his diapers (and of course she was checking the diapers at home). It passed just fine while he was at my house, no indication from him at all that anything was painful or difficult, it took a little over a week. Bring on the apple juice, raisins, and lots of water to try and speed it along.

I also say that if it hasn't passed already it will soon. I suggest that if there was reason concern the nurse would've told you to take her to urgent care or another doctor.

A marble is round and smooth and is made of a benign substance. Unlike a razor blade. I escorted a mentally ill person who had swallowed a razor blade. She refused help. Her caretakers file with the court in hopes of it ordering to get treatment. A doctor testified that the razor blade would not harm her. He sited other incidences of people swallowing sharp objects that passed without injury. I don't know how that happens.

I do know that an xray would be important if the object were toxic. A marble is not.

it's just a marble. if there are no signs of discomfort, i wouldn't sweat it.
like you, i probably WOULD be checking, just for my own sake. but it would be pretty easy to miss if she's actually using a potty. is she still in diapers?

My son swallowed a marble about that age. I never saw it come out. It would have passed by now, and I'd it didn't, I would suspect there would be obvious pain.

I would put her on a lot of water and some high fiber foods to keep her stools soft. No dairy, no cheese, no ice cream, no bananas, no rice, nothing that causes gas. Add flax seed or flax oil, raisins, apple juice, prunes if you can cut them up into small pieces, etc. That will keep her from getting constipated and stopped up at all, if there is a marble still in there. And I agree that you should take other marbles from the same set in to the doctor.

I also wonder if it's possible you missed it. You say "potty" but she's 2, so I imagine she's not using the potty and you mean her diaper, right? If not, you could have missed it.

Is she using the potty or diapers? Is it possible you missed it? My daughter swallowed a coin at around 18 months. She passed it the next day. We fed her a lot of canned peaches. She didn't have a care in the world but I sure worried.

have you called the dr? You might need to take her in for an X ray to make sure it's not stuck somewhere

That would be worth an x-ray to me at this point. Hang in there and try not to worry too much. I can't blame you though, I think I would be pretty nervous.

I agree with candice. It may be time to get an X ray to put all fear at rest.

I would recommend bringing a marble similar to what she swallowed with you. I mention this as years ago, when sewing, I had pins in my mouth, and it felt like I inhaled one. I had my pins (lots of brands in an old tin box...and it turns out, depending on what the pin was made of, some would show on an X ray. Some would not.

My 'pin' never showed up ON X ray, or in a BM. (And checking was NO FUN!! lol). I recollect being told to eat LOTS of bread. This was MANY years ago though. And a pin was obviously not round like a marble.

Certainly this is worth a call to the doc in any case!

Best!
