Hi mother of 3 month old baby girl here... I think you should feed her more in one feeding. like if you usually feed her 3 oz, try giving her 4. She may be waking up b/c she is still hungry. My daughter usually drinks 4 oz, but at night like around 10pm i bump it up to 5 and she sleeps until 6am.
Hope this helps.

Hi,my 2 daughters, born 5 8 & 6 7, ate every 1 1/2. I would feed them 9 bottles during the night. I found that they liked to sleep on an incline rather than flat on back. Did you try putting her in a swing or bouncy seat? I worked in a bagel store during my first pregnancy so I know how you feel. I think that they got used to the constant movement and couldn't sleep without it. During the day I put her in a snuggli & went about my usual routine. Sometimes they sleep longer if they smell you or hear your heartbeat. Did you try putting one of your dirty shirts in the crib? Since your husband has a good relationship with her, maybe he could take the early morning feeding or 1:00 feeding so that you get 4 hrs. straight sleep. It is not much but it is better than 2. Good Luck! It will get better.

A baby that is 2 months old AND was a preemie SHOULD be eating every 2 hours. What she's doing is NORMAL and appropriate. She's eating that often because her stomach is tiny and can't hold a lot. If you're offering her cereal already, the reason she might go longer in between feedings is because her digestive system is too immature to digest the cereal and therefore the cereal simply sits there, undigested, and your daughter isn't getting all of the calories she needs. I would be very wary of a pediatrician that tells a mother to give a baby cereal before 4 months old if she isn't seriously refluxing.

What your husband might be able to do for you is increase the formula in each of her day bottles by half an ounce to an ounce. If she can get more calories into her body during the day, she may not need to wake as often at night for a feeding. If she wakes and is hungry, you feed her. Simple as that.

I really think that you need to find a new pediatrician first and foremost! And be very careful about the advise you get...while most of it is good there's alot of conflicting advise. You've had 3 children already, you must have some idea of what you're doing....not to mention you're baby is ONLY 2 months old! Give her some time to adjust to baby life especially since she was so early...you're lucky she's not up ALL night! Some of your questions are scarey...most of them are questions the ped should be answering and you should be feeling comfortable about what the ped is telling you. If you're not and you are still unsure about what to do, by all means, keep asking on here but also look for a new ped asap!

hi, i hope you took advice of these other women and checked with a different pedeatrician about cereal- that is a bad advice! he should know better! otherwise, my baby ate every 1 1/2 for first 2 months and she was not a premee, you baby wants to eat that often because its right for her development, good luck and check with a new ped.

Try Enfamil, that seem to help my son when he could not tolerate Simalac.

I think taking her to a new doctor would be wise for a second opinion. Especially about the ceral and her weight. Technically she is only 2weeks old.
Putting ceral in a new born's formula (even 2 months is new born) in my opinion is not sound advice nor is it according to the AAP American Academy of Pediatrics. Introducing solids before 6 months is harmful to the babies digestive system.
Perhaps if you contact LLL of Rockaway they can help you with some exact answers as to why cereal for a new born is not healthy for the babies digestive system in more detail. I am not writing this to scare you or give you anything else to do but when I read your post I was alarmed. Probably is not staying down very well either.
Also if you are interested in trying breastfeeding you can get free non judgemental help from LLL leader. NOt many women are told this from thier peds But You can still lactate up to a year after giving birth even if you had stopped. I realize that your plate is full with an 8 year old in the house and older children and inaddition working full time.
Other suggestion along with trying the breastfeeding would be to bring the baby to bed with you this very well may help both you and the baby (whole family) sleep longer. Babies do get up every 2-3 hours - Hang in there and keep asking for help.
There is a wonderful pediatrician accross from St. Clares Hospital - Medical offices on Route 46 - Dover/Wharton location. She is a new mom herself and would understand were you are coming from. Dover Pediatrics- Amy Kotler- ###-###-####. I have used her as a back up pediatrician for when my regular pediatrician is on vacation or out of town. The main pediatrician that I use is far from Wharton he is located in Essex Fells -Off 287 and he is an old country doctor- considered more Holistic. Dr. Schlacter ###-###-####. When he retires (I hope not soon) I will switch to Amy. I have two boys 9 & 6 years old and I am a doula Childbirth labor assistant that lives in Rockaway. Best of luck and hang in there. Also if you think you may be getting a bit down - even just a little bit you can log on to www.njspeakup.gov or call 1-800-328-3838 for some tips to guard against post partum depression. Not getting enough sleep and having a baby that is not feeling well does not help and can make a new mom depret...sending you some strength and wishes for more sleep. Doula S.

Set him straight on what you want for your baby...you gave birth, so your opinion wins. He has to work with you!

Give her more cereal, make it thick like cereal, and give her a hot bath before you feed her. The same thing happened to me, my son was hungry every 2 hours...but she may still wake up to eat every 2 hours. If giving her the thicker cereal works, it might give you an extra two hours at the most, to rest.

I agree with some of the others responses. You may want to consider getting a new pediatrician. Unless you trust him/her then stay but if your guts say something else then change. A mother's instinct is very powerful. Cereal at 2 months old just seems to much at such a young age.

every 2 hrs isnt good. You/he needs to try and not feed her.
soy milk is very good i gave it to my son. and if 2tsps in the bottle arnt doin it start given her breakfast and dinner (especially dineer) cereal. she's old enough. i had my son eating cereal and fruit by 3 mnths cause he wasnt gaining weight but he also wasnt waking up every couple of hrs. that should have stopped (slowed down ) to at least 3-4 hrs. also keep an eye.. Long as she's gaining the docs dont worry as much. so i would try uping uonces and try feeding cereal (rice ) that might help more. if not go to bananas. How many ounces is she eating any how??? that really counts to? let me know.
