My 1St Child's Experience with LICE - Oh NO! Need Advice....

So about 6 days ago I found 1 LIVE louse in the front of my daughter's hair, I pulled it out, and moved on because I thought that it was a fruitfly. Then the same thing happened in the same top part of her head about 2 days later. (Finding 1 live louse). And then 2 days after that I found 1 more.

So, I'm full of anxiety and have researched the internet and already called her Pediatrician, but I want to hear any stories that you all might have.

I've checked her head repeatedly over the last few days, I don't see ANYTHING really, she doesn't even have any "dandruff" that could be confused for nits...

Could this be just a few of them sporadically in there and there's no need to do a treatment on her head? Or do these few that have come up in the last week mean that we are in for a MAJOR infestation coming up in a few weeks?

Her Doctor said not to put any shampoo treatment in her hair until it gets worse...and I agree with that. I don't want to put any harmful carcinogenic chemicals on her scalp if it isn't needed....

What are your experiences with lice in your children's hair?
(I know that it is REALLY common for kids aged 3-13....)
THANKS so much for your time!

go to whole foods and bthe stuff for lice. it's not as toxic as the other stuff.

anyway, read directions and be diligent. do not send to daycare, nursery school, wherever. if child is in another locale, let them know. also any friends been near, let them know.

strip all beds and so forth. they live in humans only, so no worry about pets 9they have a different type of lice).
hope this helps.
do not overtreat, but make sure you use the comb that 's in the kit to help get rid of them.
also, use alcohol on tp when wiping off comb. they that's a poison to them. water is not, they can hold their breath in water.
lastly, use tea tree oil shampoos and conditioners, they have a harder time keeping hold because of the oils. Oh, and have child's hair pulled back in a pony, braids, something.
good luck.

My son, who is now almost 7, got lice 3 times between kindergarten & first grade. before that, i never even knew what that was, or what it meant. I've learned a LOT since then. IF you are sure that it is LICE, there are many people who specialize in 'cleaning' the head. Following that process (which is harmless and without chemicals) there is a regimen to be followed for about 10 days. That timeframe is based on the fact that if anything is missed, it will be captured before it becomes more of a problem. It requires time and effort, but the end result is happy. IF you are sure that it is lice, then you also need to wash everything that can be washed in hot water, and dry... everything else needs to be removed (bagged and/or outside) for 48 hours. After that amount of time, lice die, as they cannot live without feeding on the human. Floors, blankets, sofas need good vacuuming, as appropriate. REMEMBER to wipe down the back of car seats, chairs, etc. Nits transfer from there back to the head!!!
It is NOT a result of hygiene issues, but it DOES need to be addressed quickly and thoroughly, or all your family run the risk of being infected.
Send me msg if you want more info. Good luck!

Ok, I just went through this a couple of months ago, and the horrors haven't worn off yet. It spread to every female in the family--me and my four girls--and it was awful. One live louse means up to 10 nits a day, and believe me when I say they are HARD to spot. I say be vigilant from the get-go.

I found a fantastic product called licenix online, and it's all natural. We used it every day for about a week and a half. We also bought a special metal comb (the plastic ones in those kits just don't work) and combed at least once a day, right after shampooing.

We also had to wash everything in hot water or bag it for a couple of weeks, vacuumed mattresses, couches, etc. It sounds like so much work, but I can almost guarantee your daughter has nits that you haven't found. I was combing them out of my daughters' hair for days, even when I thought we were done.

Good luck!!

she may have it.. wash all bedding even pillows really good hot water.. put some mayo in her hair and or olive oil.. leave on for about 1/2 hour.. you can cover her hair with this on.. with a plastic bag.. and then a towel over that.. do this two times.. once in the morning.. keep her home.. and then again afternoon. do it again a few days later.. check good behind her ears.. that's where they hide.. good luck..buy aqua net hairspray.. put her hair in pony tails or braids.. and put lots of aqua net on.. the lice hate hard hair.. they love clean fly away hair.. keep her hair pinned up for a few days.. and use the hairsprya..

I feel your pain!!! Been there, done that and OH CRUD, doing it again as I write this note. Keep checking your daughter (especially around her ears and at the nape of her neck) but before you do the "poison", try this. Buy a nit comb, shampoo your daughters hair, towel it dry and then saturate it with conditioner. Separate the hair into TINY sections and comb through with the nit comb, rinsing it in a bowl of water (I like a white plastic bowl becuase you can see what comes off the comb) and periodically wiping comb on paper towel. If there are nits, this will help get them out without using the poison.

If you do find nits or live bugs, then treat with the pediculide. My trick (gonna do it tonight) is every other night for 7-10 days after using the poison I do the conditioner comb through. Then treat again with the poison on by day 10. Also, wash all the bedding after the first treatment plus all towels, any stuffed toys your daughter favors AND any hooded shirts/jackets, etc. AND, vacuum your house like crazy then throw away the vacuum cleaner bag.

We are in the thick of it now with my 7 year old daughter and I am going to comb thru myself today because I am getting paranoid. She gave it to me over the Summer so I am worried now and let me tell you, I have a thick head of hair. UGH!!

Good luck. It is a pain in the neck to deal with but it could be something far more devastating! I am also going to buy something called fairy tails today. Apparently they make a hair spritzy product (all natural) that the louse do not like. I am hoping daily usage on my little princess will keep her lice free for the rest of the school year - and the rest of my house too!
