Hello moms I need advice my daughter is 18 mo old and always whines more so with me then anyone even my husband says she is so different when I am not around... First she is not really trying to talk she does say some words but she is very smart she understands everything we say to her. I will say I spoil her some I guess any whimper I do jump but how do I break this habit. Also when she wants something she points and whines I do tell her what to say also if I ask are you thirsty do you want a drink she does answer she will shake her head yes or no what can I do to break this habit I mean she used to wake up and play a little but now as soon as she is up she cries??? Also on the talking part she just had tubes so I am hoping it will come with time but there has not been to much change since she got them it has been alittle over a month ago.. She has picked up a few more words since getting them.. Please send any advice thanks a bunch...

It will go away....

When my daughter was young she was a major whiner...(still is sometimes at 14)

We would sing a song to her.....Wendy Whiner go away, come again another day"

She heard this tune A LOT and she got to the point that all I said would be Wendy and she would know and stop.

She is only 18 months old!! While we want them to be grown up, and tell us everything they need, she is still a baby. I dont condone whining by any means, but she really is not capable of telling what she wants, and the fact that she nods yes or no should be good enough at this point. There is a fine line between caving to our kids demands when they whine, and understanding that she really cant help it. She is trying to figure it all out, but has a long way to go. I say, dont worry about it too much, and just continue to try to reinforce good behaviors. ~A.~

Love and Logic for Early Childhood. This method works above all else, google it, if you can go to a seminar I highly recommend it. Within a week that stuff will stop completely.

My daughter is going through this too. She is just getting frustrated because she cannot communicate verbally. Try to be patient and it will work out.

don't re-inforce the whinning by giving her what she wants, when she points at something she wants , tell her to just point and smile an you will get it for her, but if she whine or cries she can't have it and then don't give it to her, she'll soon learn that she won't get her way with a whine.

If you haven't already, check out baby sign language. They have the words in their heads, but can't get them out of their mouths. My son only learned a few signs, but he was verbal early. It may help her whine less and ask more. Also, let her know that you don't understand whining. She needs to let you know what she wants without whining. Good luck!
