My 11 year old son's permanent tooth still has not come in yet, should I be worried? He got knocked on it and it turned brown but when it fell off, the new one never grew back

What can I do next?

My daughter had three permanent teeth that came in before and behind her baby teeth. They had to pull the baby teeth to allow the permanent teeth to move forward...not your situation I know. But she had to get one of her baby teeth pulled before they saw the permanent one come in because her dentist said on the X-ray it showed the permanent tooth and he figured the same thing would happen to that tooth also.
Once they pulled the tooth it took almost 2 years before the permanent one came in.
Someone(not a dentist) told me I would probably have to go in to the dentist and have her gum sliced so the permanent would come through.
I guess the gum can thicken and the tooth can't break through. But like I said, it took almost two years.

Hi D.,
Take him to the dentist and have it x-rayed.

He needs to see the dentist. If the tooth is there under the gum, he may need to have braces to pull the tooth down into place. If you don't have it checked, and the tooth is there, and doesn't fall on it's own, it will fuse to the jaw bone and never come in. This needs to be checked, there is a high possibility that the tooth will never come in on it's own. If it was a baby tooth that was knocked out. If it was an adult tooth that knocked out, it will not grow back. You weren't quite clear in your email.

teeth grow in at different times, depending on the toothe will depend on when it's supposed to come in. check with his dentist. they can always take an xray to see if there are tooth buds in the gums (for the adult tooth).

Was the tooth that fell out a permanent tooth? If so, they do not grow back - he'll need as prosthetic one.

If it was a baby tooth that fell out than it will grow back in time. HTH!

D., how long ago was his baby tooth knocked out? Sometimes they can take some time, especially when the tooth came out before it was ready and the permanent tooth was not already coming up. If you have concerns, I would speak with your regular dentist. Good luck!

If the baby tooth fell out early, the adult teeth can take longer to come in without another tooth to clear the path. My son lost his 4 bottom baby teeth at 9 months due to a fall - the top 2 also fell out at age 3 as they were damaged in that fall and redamaged - and at 6 1/4 they aren't in yet, but visible on xrays.

Please check with your dentist.

He needs to see a dentist and have an xray to see if the tooth is damaged or never grew. If it's a front tooth he should have had it years ago. That's something the dentist should have already checked at previous visits.

To my knowledge, it just means it fell out before your son's body was ready to regenerate it. I mean, was it a baby tooth? How long ago did he loose it? If you're that concerned, ask a dentist!
