Must-Have Snacks....What's Yours? (Healthy or Junk You Just Have to Have It)

I'm getting tired of our regular snacks and looking for new ideas. I do "treat" the kids with a totally junk snack sometimes so if you could all share your "Must Haves" I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
PS.
We are going on a holiday road trip so ideas for that too would be great! Have a great weekend!

I try to do more healthy thing for my 3 yr old. Here's what we have:

Fresh sliced apples, carrots, Bananas. homemade no sugar applesauce. Raisens, I like to make up a mix of different healthier cereals and put in a baggy for on the road.

In the summer we used to cut up banana's and put on a Popsicle slick and dip in dipping chocolate and put in the freezer for a short bit. just till they are fairly cold, but not frozen. (ok that one isn't too heathly with the chocolate, but they are really good)

Well, here where I live, these are the "staple" snacks for adults and kids.
It is our "local style" snacks... and very good!
It is Japanese in origin.. and Hawaiian-ized.
Things like: Arare, Kakimochi, dried fruits & sea foods, Senbei... etc.
Kids and adults... LOVE these snacks!
We all grow up here.... eating these things. It is a part of our normal childhood memories and favorite foods.
Every local here... probably has these in their kitchen cupboards.

Here is a link for it:
http://www.cybersnacks.net/

And no, I am not a sales person for this site... but they simply have good products and are a staple source, in my State. And their store is very popular here, locally.

all the best,
Susan

I am a weirdo with food. I go through phases of periods of time only wanting 1 kind of snack. Same with my regular meals (currently I have eaten a tuna sandwhich for lunch the last 2 months). I just keep eating it, till I get sick of it.
Right now I don't have a snack, but some of my fav's are:
*Snyders Garlic bread pretzel pieces
*Baby Bell Cheese and Garlic Chips
*Dorito's 2 in 1 Sour Cream & Cheezy Enchilada
*Dry Oatmeal (Cinnamon Roll Flavor)
*Home made Chex Mix (recipe on their website & this way I can put what I want in it)
*Special K Snack Bars (strawberry flavor)
*Almonds and Raisins (I like them together for some reason)
*Pomegranate Seeds
*Oranges
*Triscuts (Rosemary and Olive Oil or Cracked Black Pepper)
*Cocoa puffs (great for a chocolate fix)
*Black Jelly Beans
Happy Snacking! =)

Marshmellows, fruit snacks in characters of their choice< we seem to always have my little pony, dora, princess ect..., gold fish, string cheese, grapes, popcorn. But with my last road trip, 9 hour drive with a 2 and 3 year old, and I am taking thesame trip in December... i have ziplock bags, 1 with mini marshmellows, white and the multi colored. In the same bag i put prentzel sticks, and gold fish. in a seperate bag, i would have nothing but grapes or popcorn. they love it. and pickles, dont know about you, but my kids love pickles, i think my family alone keep the pickle industry alive, we buy all kinds of pickes. but for on the road, in a baggie, hamber slices, nad the little sweet pickles... hope this helps.

cheese and meat trays are a must, also salt and vinegar chips :) For sugary stuff, mini snickers or and candy bar for that matter, especially reeses peanut butter cups. The holiday shaped ones are the best becasue they have more peanutbutter hehe. Right now though I love those 100 calorie choc covered pretzles by Nabisco (since I cant have sugar).

Salty Rice crackers
Chili Cheese Fritos
Flamin Hot Cheetoes (my 2.5 yr old loves them. Calls them 'spicy chips.' He refuses to eat jalepeno spicy dinners, yet will eat these chips).
Salt & Vinegar chips
Hot fresh-made-in-the-bakery flour tortilla with salsa on it, rolled up.

Eat any of the above with an ice cold Cherry Coke and you have yourself a winner snack (non-healthy, but a winner in my book).

For me - chips and homemade salsa.
For the kids - cheese/cheese sticks, yogurt, beef jerky, of course fruit, dried fruit. Another thing we like is dry cereal. Cereal in general is usually much healthier than common crackers. We make "snack cups" with cereal poured into a plastic cup. Some of our favs are frosted mini wheats, fruit loops, honeycombs, cheerios etc.

My son's hypoglycemic... so we've always got tons of snacks. What's important to us is that they have quick sugar AND protein (for longer lasting energy)... aka we do a lot of dairy snacks. In a pinch, however, McDonalds is already pre-digested (well, mostly) so it absorbs fast enough to stave of an attack, and the fats keep him going for hours. Not all the ones below are protein rich, but most are.

- Chocolate Milk. Hands down... we take a bottle (32oz) with us everywhere. For a long time -when we weren't home much- I carried a case of horizon chocolate milk boxes in my trunk since they don't need to be refridgereated. Now though, it's milk + chocolate syrup.

- Greek Honey Yogurt (it's like eating cheesecake that's *good* for you!)

- Cheese. Smoked Gouda is the current favorite. Fresh Mozzeralla is an old favorite. String cheese is either loved or "I never liked that mom!" depending on the week.

- A Blueberry Walked Into A Bar & A Strawberry Walked Into A Bar (trader joes)

- Salt & Vinegar chips (gag, yuck, choke.... but he loves them)

- Inari (sweet bean curd wrapped rice)

- Onigiri (either filled with smoked salmon, umeboshi / sour plum, or -gag- but my son likes it; Nutella) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onigiri

- Speaking of which... Nutella on anything

- Puffed Tapioca Shrimp Chips (I grew up on these, but I also ate dried squid)

- Arare & Kakimochi

- Mochi

- Miso soup (takes as long as it takes for water to boil, maybe 60 seconds of heating up the dashi, pull from burner, add miso paste, serve... so it counts as a snack in our house)

- gyoza

- Hummus & pita

- Dolmades

- Chocolate Chip Cookies

- Icecream

- Leftovers from any meal

- Fruit (whatever is in season)

- Mini bagels and cream cheese

- Milk & Cereal

- Meatballs

- Tomato slices with pepperman

- Fresh peas with kosher salt

- Skin on carrots (kiddo won't eat them peeled... the come from our garden, he won't touch store bought carrots unless they've been cooked)

- Cottage Cheese w/ salt and pepper

- Cottage Cheese & Apple Sauce with cinnamon (mixed together)

- Samosas (stuffed potatoes and peas)

- Latkes

- Baguette Paninis

Toasted nuts- plain or spiced
Larabars
Freeze-dried and dehydrated fruits
Apples with nut butter
Raw cheese
Veggies with hummus
Full-fat coconut milk with pomegranate seeds stirred in
Coconut water

We have a restricted diet, so no sugar or gluten for us, and I try to avoid puffed grains, but we do sometimes have plain rice-cakes toasted with raw butter.
