When I took my 30 month old in for these pimples she had under her arm, that is exactly what they told me....they said sometimes if it get really bad they can use something on each individual one to kind of burn them off, but that is in scenerios where they are extremely bad. My daughters has lessened up in the past 3 months but still not gone--I especially this summer tried to keep the area clean & dry & when I knw she would be around other children I made sure it was covered (short sleeve shirt, so no other kids would pick it up (I guess its highly contagious, which is how she got it from her cousin). My oldest neice had it first (from school)we think, gave it to her sister & to her other cousin & then the sister who plays with my daughter gave it to her...pretty contagious pattern. I try and make sure my daughters underarm does not get into contact with anyone else so it doesnt spread further. My daughter & nephew have a very mild case, but my neice's doesnt seem to be going away & ironically thats where my daughter caught it. I am still waiting it out & it does look a lot better.

My daughter had it for well over a year! We thought it would "run it's course" and at times it would seem to be almost gone, only to have a couple more pop up again. I didn't want to do that beetle venom stuff since hers were very close to her eyes. Luckily she was very good about letting me touch them. If I was able to pick out the little center thingie (doctor said I could try this) then that individual spot would go away for good. It took a little while, but eventually I got them all. Your really have to pull hard to get the core thing out but it didn't seem to hurt much more than a little pinch. But, like I said, my daughter was really good about it for some reason. Good luck!

My niece had it and it took well over a year to 'run it's course.' It was rampant and now, at 5, she has awful scars/markings that might stick around for awhile. I'm with the others (as is my Sister in Law!) who will encourage you to try one of the treatments.

I had never heard of this before so I googled it and found this article (I think you'll have to copy the whole address and paste it into your browser - I don't know why you're not being given the full link):

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/health&...

It supports and contradicts some of the advice you've been given. Hope it helps!

Hi L.,

Hi L.,

Mulluscom does not run its course. My daughter got it at camp this summer and we are still seeing a dermatlologist. The only thing that takes care of it is a beetle extract that the dermatlologist applies to each individual spot. My daughter actually had a fairly mild case but we have had to go to two treatments so far and we are awaiting the net one in the beginning of Oct. I am hopeful that all of the "spots" are gone. You mostly get it from water in pools or bathtubs, so don't let your son bathe with other children. My nephew had it and one treatment was all it took, but you should definitely ask a skin doctor.

Good Luck,
R.

Hi L.,

I wouldn't just let it run it's course. My son had a mild case of it but it's stubborn. Go to the dermatologist and have them treat it. It took 3-4 treatments but then it was gone. Good luck.

Hi, my son and I have had molluscom and the doctor told me the same thing -- it will run its course. We have left them alone and the initial spots have run their course, but, like others, a few new spots came as the old ones were leaving. Just reading the responses has been helpful! I am pretty patient and they don't look unsightly, so we're waiting it out. As for me, I got mine dry-iced off and they haven't returned. It didn't hurt that much, but that's too much to put my son through.

I believe it's a virus and must just run its course. My son has had it for almost 8 months. We break them open and swab them with tea tree oil. It seems to keep it from spreading.

Good luck.
