I am scheduled for a MRI guided breast biopsy tomorrow. Has anyone had one and can you tell me your experience with it? How is the pain afterward? Can I return to normal activities by the next day? Is there any swelling? Thank you for your responses.

What can I do next?

My sister recently had two. Both times she was back at work the next day. A little sore for a few days, but managed well with an OTC pain med.

Good Luck!

Hi,
I personally had an untra sound guided biopsy on both breasts, but my cousin had the MRI guided Biopsy. She said that she worried herself so much and it really wasn't that bad at all.
I know that with me, I remember on the ride home, I started feeling a slight pain kind of a pinching pain which I took 2 extra strength Tylenol for and I was fine. I was worried that the next day I would feel worse, But I had absolutely no pain the next day. My sister had taken off from work to help me because my daughter was just a year old at the time, but turns out it was just a great sister day because I really felt fine.
There will be some bruising and when you remove your bra, it may feel like your boobs are 10 pounds heavier (I had one biopsy in each breast at the same time, so both boobs were pretty heavy). Your boobs do swell a bit also. I wore my bra even at night for the support and it really did help me. You have to be gentle with yourself for a while...pamper yourself, ok? ;)
You may have a few lifting restrictions for a short amount of time, but your pain level should be minimal at most.
Regardless how the biopsy is conducted (Via MRI or Ultrasound guided), the procedure is relatively similar and the biopsy part of it is pretty much the same so I think it should go ok.

I wish you the best., I know it is scary to think that you have to go for this test. I was worried too and started thinking all kinds of crazy things, especially with being such a new Mom. Have patience with yourself.
Most of these turn out to be absolutely fine.
Let us know how you make out.
Take care

J., I had one. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. They have you lay on a table that has 2 holes. your breasts fall into those holds. then you are in the mri machine. they will attach you to an iv line with dye. they will give you I think some shots (its been a few years so I don't remember for sure but think they give the shots for numbing) the doctor has a needle which goes in and out of the quadrants they are checking. they may or may not put in whats called a marker. its just a small chip which will show up on future mammograms. it will show whether a mass has grown or not. you will be uncomfortable for a couple days. I had a bruise that turned some magnificent colors lol. but it goes away quick. and I went to work the same day. just wear a bra with good support and you will be fine. no need to take any time off work. I did not take anything more than an advil for pain. where are you having it done? I am a big girl and had to go to bourbannais for it as the machines in aurora are old and very small.

What is your normal? I was given a mild sedative just to help me stay in that position for so long - mine was stereotactic and it took like 3 hours. I had swelling and some bruising the next day - not the day for a bathing suit!

I took Tylenol after - nothing major but a big nap afterwards of about 2 hours. I hadn't had a lot of sleep the night before (I had an infant at the time) and then the sedative! Good luck!
