Hi, I'm moving to the Reno area in a couple of weeks (hubby job is relocating us). I was wondering about the schools (I have a three and five year old) and how about advanced schools? What about entertainment places for children like water parks, parks, jungle gyms, library, anything that's exciting! Is there any places for moms to enjoy themselves!

I was born and raised here, but moved away to Portland, OR 12 years ago, and moved BACK to Reno approx a year ago. My son was almost 3 at the time. I was worried that we wouldn't have anything like Portland to do here, but amazingly Reno has grown more than I expected. You do have to look a little harder at times to find things for little people, but there are an abundance of things to do most of the year! THere are lots of parks, a waterpark (Wild Waters) and several parks have play fixtures that shoot water. THere are some zoo-type attractions just outside of town, a childrens museum in Carson City, and lots of libraries. People assume that Reno is all gambling but that is such a small part of the town! Check out reno.Momslikeme.com too. Welcome, and let me know when you get here, I would love to meet up with you! My son is almost 4 and I have an almost 5-month-old girl too!

Hi C.. I use the Moms Like Me too. It's linked through our newspaper (RGJ). What area are you moving too? We have a fair amount of year round schools here which are starting in July. We live in the Donner Springs area and my kids go to Donner Springs Elementary. My daughter is in 1st grade and my son in kindergarten this coming school year. The kindergarten teachers are both great. You can go to the website, www.greatschools.net , and look up the various elementary schools in the area. There are also some catholic, charter, and other private schools.
As for activities. Because it gets cold there a lot of indoor play area. I don't particularly like those, I take my kids to the park, but I've heard they're good. My kids have also done , My Gym Children's fitness center. They have classes for babies (mommy and Me) through about 6 yrs old. We have the Wild Island water park, but for smaller kids, I love the Sprinkler park at Lazy 5 park, it's cheaper too. If you need any more help send me a message and I'd be happy to chat with you! Good luck with your move.
