Hi ladies. My husband, myself and my 9month old are moving to Peoria from Western New York in early April. I am 6 months pregnant and need to find an OB GYN and hospital to deliver my baby in June. I am considered high risk (blood pressure probs in last pregnancy) so I'm already on a 2 week schedule and will be having a c-section so I need to find a really good OB GYN pretty quickly. I love my current OB GYN and hospital and am really nervous about all these changes right before I'm due! Any input would be appreciated!! Not too far from the Peoria area would be great, though I've read Scottsdale hospitals are highly recommended.

What can I do next?

Phoenix Perinatal Associates are the best high risk ob group in town, www.perinatal.com. They also have an office in Glendale which is very close to Peoria. I used them for both my deliveries and they were fantastic. Dr. Monique Lin is the doctor I saw the most and I can't speak highly enough about her. Also, Banner Good Samaritan Hospital is known for their high risk program. It is in downtown Phoenix and very accessible on the freeway system. The Scottsdale hospitals are great and very comfortable but Good Sam has everything for the mother and child at risk.Good luck, I know everything will work out great for you.

I too went to Desert West OBGYN, and Banner Thunderbird hospital in Glendale. and both were great. My doctor was Dr Nina "Small Hands" Wilkey in that group. My planned C-section ended up being early and she was out of town, so someone else from her group did the surgery (don't know his name though). Dr Wilkey no longer delivers babies, but I think it's a great group, and in the right location for you. Welcome to Arizona, and good luck to you and your family!

I liked Dr. Hu. He delivered my last 2 C-sections at Arrowhead hospital.

I've heard a lot of good things about Mckernan and Erikson too. They used to share an office, but Dr. Hu and Folkestad just moved.

Arrowhead is really close to Peoria. & if there are any complications with the baby (hopefully not), Thunderbird hospital is the one I recommend.

I live in Peoria and use Dr. Folkestad, he delivers at Arrowhead hospital. His office is connected to the hospital. His number is ###-###-####. He was great with my first pregnancy and I had a ton of complications gestational diabetes and preclamcia to name a few. My daughter is now two and great! We are expecting our second in June too and everything is going great! I don't have any problems this time, We are using the same doctor and hospital. My only complaint is he is always busy and I have to wait about a hour to see him.

I highly recommend Banner Thunderbird Hospital. I had all three of my children there, the second two were considered high risk. They have a wonderful staff that make you feel genuinely cared about at every appointment for your non-stress tests and ultrasounds and for your delivery as well. Since I've had my children there (my youngest is two) I've heard that they've even done more improvements to the maternity ward there so that the can accept even higher risk pregnancies. As far as a great Ob/GYN, I really like doctor Robert Phillips at Desert West Ob/Gyn (www.desertwestobgyn.com). He was who I used for both of my high risk pregnancies. He was always very friendly and calm, answered all my questions thoroughly, and you can't beat that they have an office right across from the hospital. Hope this helps as I also know how stressful it is to switch doctors mid pregnancy. May God bless you with a healthy, happy baby come June.

I had my first born at Banner Thunderbird Hospital at 5555 W. Thunderbird Rd. I live here in Peoria as well! Welcome to AZ! I absolutely LOVED that hospital and I am scheduled for a C-Section on July 31st at Banner Thunderbird! I love the Nurses and staff that are there! EXCELLENT hospital. My first born is now four years old, and we are really excited for Dawson to arrive come July!
I just recently had a very disappointing experience with my OB/GYN, so I'm not going to recommend her. However, here is the website for Banner Thunderbird Hospital, and they have a list of affiliated OB/GYN's on their website. :-) Many blessings to you and your family! Have a safe trip out here!

I would recommend Dr. Hu, he is located in the same office as Dr. Folkstad. I had him for all 3 of my kids and he is a great Doctor. He also recently did a uterine ablation on me and the results have been fabulous!

K., congratulations on moving and having your second child! I am a doula in Phoenix and I will tell you that everyone has an opinion on who the best doctor and hospital is. From my experience I would recommend Banner Thunderbird because of your location. If you are fine with driving a bit, you heard correctly, Scottsdale Shae is a great hospital. Because you are having a c-section, it is the doctor and the after care you need to focus on more than the labor and delivery portion of the facility. As far as doctors are concerned, there are several great ob/gyn's in the area. check with your insurance to see who they cover first, then make some phone calls and talk with the office staff and the doctor. I wish you the best in your move and in the birth of you awesome new baby.

You've been given great doctor's names. I had a hysterectomy at Thunderbird and was on the maternity floor. They were wonderful!
