Moving to Miami and in Need of Some Elementary Schools

It depends on what neighborhood you are going to be living in ... my kids LOVE their school, Faith Lutheran in Hialeah. Very reasonable tuition, they accept Florida Pride & McKay vouchers (if your child qualifies), VERY small classes (20 students or less per class) and they are an accredited Christian (Lutheran) school. They have Pre-K (2 1/2 yrs) through 8th grade. We have parents from Kendall, Pembroke Pines, Hialeah, Miramar, Miami Lakes, Miami Springs, Doral ... they bring their kids from all over Miami. I almost always worked downtown (I now work just a little bit closer in the Health District near JMH), but it is just a 20 minute drive to the school after work (or metrorail is VERY close!).

I made the move from Orlando to Miami myself a few years ago (I LOVED Orlando - Miami, not so much). Now we're trying to sell our house and move to North Carolina. Slow going, given the not-so-stellar state of the housing market. My daughter is only a year old, so I'm not going to be any help with a recommendation for good schools. As far as "good" areas are concerned, though, I guess it depends on how much you're willing to spend, and if you're going to be renting vs. purchasing. The closer you get to downtown (i.e., the beach), the more expensive everything gets. Coral Gables is a very nice area, and close to downtown, but it's an expensive neighborhood as well. My husband and I own a townhome in Kendall, which is in Southwest Miami-Dade and about 15 miles west of the beach (about a 45-minute commute). We found that it's one of the more affordable (but still safe) areas in Miami. When I listen to the news, it seems like most of the crimes take place in Northwest Miami-Dade County (I hope I don't offend anyone by saying that - it just happens to be something I noticed). These are generalities - I could go on and on! Oh - if you need a recommendation for a realtor, I can give you a few names. Good luck with your search!

Hi,This is S..I live in Doral-Miami.It is very central and not far from downtown.The schools here in doral are all grade A schools and very new.I have a 5 year old girl and a 6 month old.I am also the organizer for the Doral International Mom's group.We are all Miami based Mom's.If you like to join the group go to Meetup.com and search for the Doral International Mom's group.We have 50 Members and a lot of them kids is schoolage.So you can get many tips from them!

Please make sure to go to the right areas...Coral Gables,Doral and if you can't spend that much Kendall.I would not recomend Hialeah!
