Moving to Colleyville

Given a 'starting out' 'mid-range budget' I'd suggest Grapevine or North Richland Hills. Colleyville really isn't a 'starter home' community.

Sorry for the late response. I don't check my mamasource email folder as often as I should nowadays. Anyway, I live on the border (literally) of Colleyville and North Hurst. Colleyville is an expensive area, but there are a few older neighborhoods with smaller homes that can be purchased in the 200k+ range sometimes. The neighborhood where I live has nice bigger homes for a lot less money than the homes in Colleyville literally one street over.

Colleyville is a strange area because there are mansions that are next door to "shacks" on almost every major street. Most people buy up older homes only to tear them down and build their McMansion on the lot, so even the older homes are WAY expensive because you're really buying the lot, not the home, and the people selling know that.

Anyway, I would suggest searching on line for homes in Colleyville in your budget (and depending on what that is, there may not be a lot to choose from), or searching for nearby areas with cheaper homes like north Hurst, north Euless, north Bedford, Grapevine, or east Keller. All of these towns share a border with Colleyville but the home prices are significantly less.

In regards to the schools, the Grapevine/Colleyville ISD (GCISD) is supposed to be really good, but like in all school districts, they have individual schools that are rated better than others. We lucked out in that the elementary school our chidren go to is one of the exemplary schools in the Birdville school district. It was rated higher at the time we moved here than the closest GCISD elementary school which is only 1 mile from our house. That's another thing that is weird. The school your child will go to is sometimes not the school that is closest to your home depending on where the boundary lines are drawn.

Anyway, when you find a house you like, then you can look up the ratings for the schools that feed to that house. The Hurst-Euless-Bedford school district has some really interesting programs, like the Spanish Immersion program, and they had a high school state championship football team last year I believe so it just depends on what you're looking for.

If you've not yet gotten a realtor to help you with your home search, I can refer you to a family friend who is a real estate agent in the area. Colleyville is exspensive compared to surrounding areas but it is nice. I had the same square footage and bedrooms in grand prairie at my house and paid 146000. My sis n law lives in colleyville and that house was close to 400000 for the same thing! Check around for forclosures and deals! Good luck!

Colleyville is extremely expensive. One of the nicest neighborhoods in the metroplex. I would look in grapevine. Same school district but a little cheaper.

I live in Hurst but am in the Grapevine/Colleyville schools. I don't know your budget, but it is much cheaper to live in Hurst. There is only a small pocket of homes in Hurst that are in this school district. My kids will be going to Bransford, Colleyville Middle, and Grapevine High School. I live in Colleyville and the interesting thing about the area is that there are not many traditional neighborhoods and if you do find one it will be expensive ($400+) so if you are looking for something under that range it is best to do a search on realtor.com for the price you want. There are older smaller (aka cheaper) houses mixed in with the new mansions all around and you just have to be patient and find the right one for you. My house was under $300 when we bought it three years ago. Good Luck!

We live in Grapevine and go to Grapevine Colleyville schools. LOVE our neighborhood! Lots of interaction for the kids through the GCNA, walking distance to elementary school and great friends.
