Moving to Chester from Ohio

Hello! We are hoping for a place to live in a good neighborhood near Chester to move to with our toddler. We are having a tough time finding small houses to rent, townhouses or duplexes. We're coming from Columbus, Ohio where it is easy to find these places to rent, but now we need to move in 3 weeks or less! Any insight is appreciated. Minimum of 2 bedrooms, a little yard space or nearby parks are appreciated. Safe is very important. Know any good websites to get this info? Have a great place to rent in your neighborhood? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I don't know Chester, but I just wanted to say hi. My husband and I moved here from Columbus, Ohio 8 years ago. We still have family in Columbus and go there a few times a year, but live in Center City now, up near the art museum. Welcome!!

If you want to be near Chester for work or school then I would try Ridley, Prospect Park, Ridley Park, Aston or Brookhaven even Springfield/Rutledge or Swarthmore. There is a townhouse development in the Aston/Brookhaven area that I know a few people that have lived there...its just off Rt 352 but I can't think of the name but a realtor should be able to help you.

Good luck with your move. I have lived in the area all my life send me note back if you have any further questions on an area.

Hi H.,

Let me mimic many of the others warnings. There are many areas in Chester that are very unsafe. Claymont, Delaware is in close vicinity of Chester and has quite a few apartment complexes. It is a safe area to raise a family and there are several local park in the area too. Good luck with your search!

You are moving to Chester, PA? I would not suggest Chester if you want safety. You may do better in West Chester. It is a college town and pretty safe. Also, if you are concerned about price, you might consider Northern Delaware, North Wilmington. 19809 zip. You might get a cheaper price than PA. Also, if you can get your hands on a local newspaper. Philadelphia Inquirer and News Journal for Delaware. Be prepared for sticker shock. I moved from Columbus to Wilmington, DE last year, and I just can't believe it! Good luck to you.

We just flew home from a wedding in Columbus last night! Funny! Anyway, I just want to say the same thing another member mentioned.

Chester County is a beautiful area with a wide range of living possibilities and award winning school districts.

West Chester is a great little college town with a lot to offer.

BUT... The town of Chester is NOT a place you want to live.

I'm sure there must be safe areas of Chester, but let me just tell you that most poeple who must visit Chester only go during the day...keep the doors of the car locked...and make sure they are going to a heavily monitored area. Good Luck.

1st, absolutely under no circumstances should you move to Chester! If you mean West Chester or Chester County that is a completely different story. I'm sorry if I offend anyone on here, but you might as well move to West or North Philly.

I don't know if you or your partner are working there or what, but it is not the place to raise a kid. Have you been there? Choose something like Media or Swarthmore/Wallingford etc. Your profile looks like you might fit in well in Swarthmore. That area has Swarthmore College and they are very "granola" etc. Check out the website www.Swartmore.edu and there should be links to housing in the area. There is also a great toddler park there.

Good luck....but seriously don't move to Chester!

Hello! I am also from Ohio. (Canton). My husband and I live in Fishtown. It is a great neighborhood and really close to center city Philly. It is still very affordable as it is an up and coming area, but very safe.

Goodluck!

Boothwyn is nice...don't move to Chester,PA. I think at one point it was ranked as syphillus capital of the us...very, very dangerous place. My friend was robbed at gunpoint to her newborns head in the middle of the day there.

H.,

It all depends on your cost. Delaware county is usually where a lot of people live. However, chester is really not the place you want to live. There are areas like Aston, Parkside, Brookhaven, Ridley, Middletown, Chester Heights. I assume you are talking about Chester, PA, these are areas around Chester Pa.

Try www.apartmentguide.com & also www.realtor.com look under Rentals. I do not know Chester. We live in Exton close to West Chester. Do try the web links and see what is availble in your price range. If you phone and they say there is not more units left, ask which other rentals they will suggest. Good Luck!
