Just had my first baby in May 08, and now we are moving to the OKC area from out-of-state when he is only 5 weeks old! We have his 4-week checkup with his current pediatrician this week, but I know we'll need to find a new ped. pretty quickly to keep up with his appointments. I want to find a doctor who is open to delayed/selective vaccinations and supportive of breastfeeding and natural childcare. We will be living south of Bethany near Lake Overholser, so someone who is not too far away would be great. Thank you in advance for your recommendations! :o)

So What Happened?

We went with Dr. Ann Parrington...I left a message after hours thinking someone from the office would return the call the next morning, but Dr. Parrington actually called me back personally that evening to visit with me about her practice! She answered all my questions, and when we had Ephraim's 2-month visit she was so gracious and thorough. She was very flexible and supportive of my various requests, and everyone at the office couldn't be nicer. I highly recommend her! Thank you to everyone for taking the time to respond!! :o)

Dr. Kevin Moore is awesome. He practices at "The Pediatric Group" which is located just south of Baptist Hospital in NW Oklahoma City (off NW 56th St). They have a website - not sure of the address...but if you google it you'll find it.

I take my son to Dr. Donna Cosby in Mustang. I am not sure how far that is for you but I think she is worth the drive. Her office is very open to whatever vaccine schedule YOU want and very supportive. I think she is a wonderful doctor. Good luck and welcome back to OKC!

dr jana freeman through mercy. i don't know her number off the top of my head, but if you search mercy hospital okc, you will frind her number. she is fine with delaying vaccinations (we are doing this with my son) and preventative care. she is very reticent to prescribe medications and without testing to confirm what they have, so no "automatic" antibiotics. i was in the process of weaning my 2 year old when we started using her, so i don't know how she is with newborns or breastfeeding, but she didn't make a big deal over the fact that i was still nursing at 2. she is very good about calling back if you call at night when she is on call, too.

We have used Dr. Gerald Dickman for 12 years. He is at Babptist Hospital Bldg. C. He is a DO, so approaches most things naturally. Another thing I like about him is that he is concerned with the whole family not just the kid. When I had my 3rd 6 years ago, I was overwhelmed and a little depressed, he spent alot of time talking to me and getting me to feel more confident. He is always willing to spend the extra time getting to the bottom of things. He does sometimes run over on appointments, but I dont mind because when I need the extra time he is always willing. Good Luck- and interview a couple before you decide.

Welcome to the area! I use Dr. Hamed Albiek who also practices at the Pediatric Group. He is such a caring and understanding doctor. If I ever have any concerns he always sees us the same day. And he ALWAYS listens to patient and the parent! They do have a website if you want to check them out. It is www.pediatricgroupokc.com

Good luck finding the perfect doctor!

I'm a little late on responding but I really like Dr. Garlanda Parker (All is Well Pediatrics) ###-###-####, by Mercy Hospital. I know she is supportive of breast feeding but I don't know about the vaccinations? They have always been able to get us in same day for any sick emergencies. Last year at school my son split open his forehead. I called her office and they waited for me to pick him up at school and bring him in (it was at noon; their lunch time). They had me bring him there instead of having to take him to the emergency room. That was great! I didn't have to incur the wait or cost of an ER visit. He ended up needing 8 stitches.

These are all great suggestions. I just thought I would add to the list.

Dr. Colleen Dooley in NW OKC
Dr. Cosby also has an office in SW OKC
Dr. Michael Vincent (by Mercy)
Dr. Tim Krous in Edmond
I go to Dr. Susan Hakel by Baptist Hospital
she sees all ages and is a great family doctor
Dr. Ann Parrington NW OKC

I work with families who have children with special needs. These doctors are the ones that many have stated they have been very satisfied with their care. Some take medicaid and so do not...if that is of concern.
