We have a mouse in the house. How do we get rid of it in a child-safe way? We have two tom-cat traps, but they do not seem to work.

What can I do next?

Try putting peanut butter on a mouse trap and set it out at night maybe on top of the kitchen counter out of the reach of little hands. Good luck!

All products that mice eat are poisonous to people as well. It all tastes like sweet chalk, so kids will eat it easily. Most of the products contain poisons that deplete vitamin k in the body and the mice bleed to death internally. There is another class of poisons (bromethalin) which is a neurotoxin. I would recommend glue traps, etc, and not any poisons. I would not believe pest control companies. They will tell you their products are safe because they're not in places where the kids can get to. The main problem with that is the mice/rats will pick up the poison pellets and move them to places where kids can reach. -jm

D-Con makes the pellets that come in a sealed pouch - you never open them. I just put a few in different places around the house - in a cabinet or two, under the couch, behind furniture - places the kids couldn't get to them. I also put a couple out in the garage. Never heard from the nasty little critter again!

I went to Lowes and bought these little round traps.
You put peanut butter or cheese in the bottom. You set the trap, the mouse walks in and it closes behind. You never have to see/touch the mouse. You just know it is in there because it moves. Get a couple...
My son didn't bug ours.
GOOD LUCK

For a quick fix get the d-con traps where you never see the mouse once trapped. For a long term effect- buy the sonic repellants for rodents. They have worked for us! We keep them plugged in the garage and it keeps them out. When we moved into our house I saw 2 mice in the garage. I immediately went to buy more repellants (left ours at the old house) and I havent seen any since! It takes a little time for the mice to realize they cant adjust to the sound- it doesnt run them off immediately. It wont harm your dogs or cats but I wouldnt use it if you have hamsters or birds in your house. I bought mine at Wal MArt- 2 pk for 15.00. Good Luck!

We had mice and used sticky traps and humane traps. I kept catching them and eventually had to have a pest control guy come out and inspect my home for small entry ways that the mice are getting in from the outside. He sealed them up and we haven't had a mouse since.

If you arn't allergic then get a cat. I have 2 kitty's and they catch any mice that even attemt to cross their paths. Thats the best advice I can give you, unless you get a coke cap and fill it with soda. Mice cant belch, so they run off and die, but the bad thing about that is that they can die in the walls or somewhere else and really stink. Good luck with mouse hunting....

We have two cats and have never seen a rodent. If that's not an option you can also contact this company - http://www.911wildlife.com/. I hear they do a great job.

Go to your local shelter and adopt a cat. Pets are great for children and a cat will keep your home mice free!
Tell them what you want and a shelter will help you find the right cat for your family.
