There is a place that helps battered women (if that's the case) in NRH. I wish I could recall the name, but they provide housing for those women and children for up to 2 years, I think. Look on the internet...that's how I stumbled upon them. Good luck.

The YWCA has 3 child development centers that offer services based on income on a sliding scale. I would recommend calling United Way, though, too. They can give you referrals to all community resources you may need in addition to child care.

Good luck!

Once you're out of the house, immediately go to your local Attorney General's Office and apply for child support. Or print out an application online at www.oag.state.tx.us

Try the 'welfare' office. They have one-time sums they will give if you qualify. Also they can give you a referral for various other resources in your area. The local battered women's shelter should be a wealth of information as well - if you can't find their number the local police have it.

HEB school district actually has a counselor socialworker to help out in such a crisis for kids in that school district. Her name is Ellen LoBue and she offices at one of the schools in Euless. Is your husband unable to help support you during the transition. The courts will want him to pay support to help you get on your feet regardless of whether or not he wants the divorce or not. J. D.

Contact the local Girls and Boys Club for low-income inexpensive daycare and after school care.

Contact your county hospital for medical help for your family, should you need it.

Contact Catholic Charities for help paying your bills.

Get on a list for public housing ASAP through your city's human services dept.

Ask around. Lots of people have needed help sometime in their lives. Everyone knows one more piece of advice to give you that the rest of us may not have thought of. Best of luck to you.

Just so you know, the Women's Shelters in Fort Worth and Arlington merged a couple of years ago and are both now called SafeHaven, so don't be surprised if that's what they say when they answer the phones.

You don't say why you're leaving, so I'm not sure if this is an appropriate place for you or not. Blessings to you and your family in this tough situation.
