Morning Sickness -- Ugh!

Any moms out there who tried a remedy for morning sickness that worked?? I am 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and it is getting bad. I know from my first pregnancy that this is only the beginning. Last time at the peak of it, I was vomiting three times a day and feeling rotten the rest of the day. This time it is even harder because not only do I still work full-time, I have a 15-month old who doesn't understand why mama isn't playing with him like I was just a few weeks ago. I'd love to hear from moms with remedies that actually helped. Last time I tried ginger, crackers, vitamin B6, sparkling water, nothing really helped.

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
I did the preggie (preggo?) pops that I got from Motherhood Maternity. Also I used hypnosis and deep breathing for my pregnancy headaches. Also the wrist things.
Stay hydrated!
Congrats to you and I hope you get some relief soon.

During my first pregnancy I wore those wrist things for seasickness. They took away the feeling of nausea, but I still threw up once a day until my third trimester. My second pregnancy was much harder. I threw up on average 5 times a day from week 6 on, until my doctor put me on medication at 6 months. I tried everything as well - wristbands, ginger, homeopathic pills, crackers, soda, etc. And my 2 year old couldn't understand why I couldn't play either. I can't remember the name of the drug, but it's what they give cancer patients after chemo. It did the trick. Good luck!

Acupuncture!

I had MAJOR morning sickness AND daily migraines with BOTH my pregnancies for months... and acupuncture was the only thing that worked.

Just one 1/2 hour session and it went away completely! I tried everything else...it didn't work for me and just wasted my money.

Even my OB/GYN recommends it.
And no, it does not even hurt, it's actually quite relaxing.

Good luck,
Susan

just an addition to the advice given... if you're throwing up frequently and have a hard time even keeping water down and you do ask for Zofran, make sure you ask for the kind that you dissolve on your tongue (they finally have a generic version). I had the regular pill at first but I would just throw it right back up with the water I had to take with it.

Hi A.!!

Congrats on your pregnancy!! I too am going through the Morning Sickness blues. I am 8 1/2 weeks along, and for the last 2 weeks I couldn't even get off of the couch. The only thing that seems to have eased the nausea a little is making sure I have something in my stomach. What I have been doing is keeping a baggie of Frosted Mini Wheats next to my bed. When I wake up in the morning, I eat a few of them, just to have something in my stomach before getting up. To make it through the day, I keep some kind of snack with me at all times. Whether it is a small bag of pretzels or more Mini Wheats. Preggie Pop Drops also bring some relief, but not as much as I was hoping for. I use them basically to keep my mouth hydrated. I have found that if my mouth is dry, I get that sick feeling in the back of my throat, which just leads to a trip to the bathroom.

I am a full time student with a 3 1/2 year old, and my husband has just been put into the hospital for pnuemonia so I've been having to take care of our daughter while fighting morning sickness. That actually lasts all day and night. Good luck and just remember, that irritating nausea is your body's way of letting you know that your baby is healthy and growing.

Congratulations! I too had morning sickness. My doctor advised me to take a half a Unisom tablet before bed each night. He explained that it was in the same category as Tylenol (safe for pregnant women) and contains an anti-nausea ingredient. I was never overly tired from it, but without it I was sick as a dog all day. Of course, ask your doctor before taking anything, but good luck!

This is going to sound gross, but while at work I drank warm coke to ease my queasiness. I also stashed saltines and any bland food I could find and forced myself to swallow it down. It doesn't last too long, but it eases the feeling for a bit. Like you, nothing really seemed to work long term, but the warm coke lasted the longest. Congratulations and good luck!

First off, congratulations on the pregnancy! I absolutely feel your pain. I am going through the same thing currently, and I posted a similar request a few weeks ago. I was actually put on Zofran, by my doctor. I was throwing up about 6-7 times a day. The medication really helps, but I still vomit about 1 x per day I would ask your ob about it, it really helps so that I can continue to work and take care of our older daughter. Goodluck and Best Wishes.
