Hi there! I am wondering if anyone has any ideas how to help with morning sickness? I wake up with it and go to bed with it. I had morning sickness with my Son, but it was not this bad.. I have not threw up or anything, but I feel like I have the tummy flu all of the time. I have tried drinking lemon aid, taking vit. B. None of them worked. None of them worked with my Son either. I am just wondering if there are any new ideas that may out there? I just cannot wait for this part of the pregnancy to come to an end... It is hard to have morning sickness while you have a toddler to care for at the same time... :(

What can I do next?

I'm so sorry, A.! I've had morning sickness all day for all 3 of my pregnancies, and it went away somewhere toward the end of the 2nd trimester the last two times. Ugh. Interestingly, I found this time it isn't as bad as it was with the others. I see you do stay home, so maybe you don't have this problem, but it seemed I always woke up feeling terrible, hurried out of the house, and by the time I got to work, I felt even worse and it went on like that all day. Now I'm home with my kids, and I think that slowing down in the morning and being able to eat sooner after I wake up really helps. (I'm not a person who can keep saltines next to the bed; the thought of eating right after I wake up is just awful. But now it's within an hour of waking up instead of two or three.)

The sea bands really did help with my first, and I always thought ginger helped--ginger tea, ginger ale, anything at all. I hope the morning sickness passes and you're feeling better soon!

My doc prescribed Zofran for the morning sickness (or all day sickness as it were). There is now a generic of that on the market, I believe. Also, peppermint tea really helped--if you don't like it hot, you can chill it as ice tea. Hope you feel better soon and congrats on the baby!
Blessings,
V.

Depends om how bad it is. I could hardly function for the 1st 3 months, it felt like a BAD flu to me. I WAS in fact throwing up several times a day though. I tried Zofran, and Reglan, Unisom/Vitamin B and all those natural tips and nothing touched it. I researched and researched on the internet and found that if you are more prone to motion sickness, you can be more prone to horrible morning (ha!) sickness. They had suggested taking Meclizine (which is also in Dramamine II, but much cheaper purchased as the generic Meclazine). I asked my doctor about it and she said she doesn't know why it would work, but it is safe to take so if it is working then go ahead. Worked great for me. Even with it I still threw up once a day until the day I had my daughter, so it didn't completely go away, but it made it managable to live with where I couldn't get up out of bed before that point. Also keep food in your stomach at all times. Now I feel more confident going into this again in the future. Good luck!

I had horrible morning sickness with all my kids. My last one was the worst and my midwife advised me to take a 1/2 tablet of unisome. It worked magic. The morning sickness went away at 14 weeks and I was able to stop taking them without a problem.

I really liked the preggie pop drops sold at Motherhood Maternity and Babies R Us. They weren't a cure-all, but certainly helped. Also, any sour candy helped (like sour patch kids or jolly ranchers).
Hope it passes quickly.

The only thing that worked for me was just to nibble all day and keep a good taste in my mouth. I would just take saltine crackers and have one every 15 minutes or so. I also would drink a lot of water and add a little lemon or juice to it to make a good taste in my mouth.
Having a good taste in your mouth and lots of swallowing is what worked for me because I was the same way.
Best Wishes,
J.

If it's bad enough, your OB should be able to prescribe something to help. If you're looking for non-pharmaceutical solutions, try trisciuts (the complex carbs may help) and try eating small amounts of food throughout the day. It's counter-intuitive but keeping something in your stomach at all times may help. Good luck!

I was REALLY sick ( I was getting sick though)with Both of my pregnancy and luckily my doctor remembered how sick I was with Brandon ( my First) so We skipped the whole..."try this and try that" stuff. I had to get on Zofran. They give it to chemo patients for nausa and the best part...it melts in your mouth! Tastes horrible but man it works. and Obviously its safe for pregnancy. also I have tried 1/2 of a unisom and b6. That kinda worked for me.Good luck! I know how it is! Icky!!oh and congrats!

Hi A.,
I had morning sickness with all four of my children. This may or may not be true for you but I believe most people feel morning sickness (or all-day sickness) when they allow their stomachs to empty. This is what I did and it REALLY helped.

I had saltines by my bed and would eat a couple with water even before getting out of bed in the morning. Then I basically nibbled on them all day long. One or two every hour or so kept my stomach "full".

Let us know what works and congratulations on your growing family!

When I was preg. with my son, NOTHING worked for me -- with the exception of Mint Tea (decalf, of course). Give it a try. :-) Didn't completely take it away, but helped a great deal. I have now found that in general, mint tea just helps me when I have an upset tummy for any reason.

Hi A.! As you are I am expecting in May also and have had morning sickness as well with this baby. I was at the point where I couldn't even function anylonger with being so tired and being so nauseated all the time......so I made the call to my doctor's office. As I did with my first pregnancy I used Unisom at night before I went to bed and it helped with my nausea the next day. I take B-6 three times a day also and only take one Unisom at night. They recommended I take three Unisom also but I don't see how I would stay awake if I took it during the day. I would consult with your doctor and see if this is something they would recommend. I feel a lot better and can function day to day. Good luck! H.

I'm sorry to hear you are so sick. I would really watch how much your eating and drinking. I imagine with a toddler, you might not be getting enough and even though it doesn't sound good, having something to eat usually calmed my stomach. Otherwise, for my worst morning sickness, crystallized ginger really helped a lot and raspberry leaf tea.
Good luck I hope something helps.

I had awful morning sickness with my first one too. I did a lot of research about it and I read that you may need to take up to 250 mg of Vit B to cure it. I haven't had a second baby yet so I haven't been able to test it. Also, I was prescribed zofran 8 mg(a medicine for chemo patients to cure naseau). It didn't work well for me but it saved my friend, she loved it. You may want to try that. I feel so awful for you...its the worst feeling ever!

1-hour walks outside were really helping me. Nothing else really helped me, and I had morning sickness throughout all my pregnancy.
Also, not to drink anything right in the morning helped too, otherwise the morning sickness got worse for me.
One of my coworkers said that her morning sickness went away when she stopped taking the pregnancy vitamins. Of course, then you need to watch your diet :) She said she had morning sickness with her first baby all the time and was taking vitamins then. But with the second baby she decided not to take the vitamins, and she didn't have any morning sickness.

Hope that helps.

One of the best things I learned when I was pregnant is to avoid the traditional carb foods like saltines when you are feeling sick. Instead eat a small (one ounce) serving of concentrated protein. I found almonds to be great. Also I bought the tiny cans (single serving cans) of tuna and salmon to keep handy (But only eat them a couple times a week). Peanut butter, edamame (green soybeans), and roasted soybeans are other good options.

Hi A.,
I too had the all-morning and night sick feeling--luckily, it did go away after the 12th or 13th week. Anyways, ginger tea really helped me as did soda crackers. One of my girlfriends was battling morning sickness so bad that she had to be hospitalized for intravenous hydration. Her doctor recommended a combo of Vitamin B and Unisom before bed each night. It completely cured her of her sickness! I'd check with your doctor to see what he/she recommends.

There are these things called MamaPops (I think), they are made of all different herbs and spices that ease nausea. They come in a variety pack including ginger, peppermint, spearmint and some other flavors. I didn't have a lot of nausea, but when it hit, these took the edge off right away. Also, mint teas are exceptional for easing the feeling.

Good luck!

I had all-day sickness with both of my boys. I found that slim-fast shakes really helped to settle my stomach. I'm not sure why, but you can give it a try.

Sea bands helped me. They put pressure on your wrists and are traditionally used for motion sickness on boats. You can find them at a drug store.

I had morning sickness with all four of my kids in a six year time frame, so I feel for you. Many hospitals use the smell of peppermint to reduce nausea. You can spray peppermint spray on your pillow or on the collar of your shirt or perfume the whole room with it.

I learned something about the food I ate, too. When I ate traditional "morning sickness foods" like saltines and lemon lime soda, I felt good for a few minutes and then felt bad again. I was constantly eating, then losing what I just ate. This is because those kinds of food are loaded with sugar and processed flour. They easily throw off your sugar balance in your blood.

I know it will be hard at first, but if you can get down complex carbs like whole wheat and oats, fruits and vegetables, nuts and peanut butter, your body will have something more substantial to work with and you won't get that roller coaster sugar spike and crash.

Best wishes,
S.

I read this and it reminds me of my aunt. My aunt is 37,(we're only 10years apart) pregnant with her first child and says she feels like the flu all day and night and hasn't thrown up either. She's going nuts. She's due in April so close to you too.

Her obgyn told her it's her hormones and things and to just wait it out, there is nausea medicine but has the possibility to hurt the baby so she's not going that route yet.

She too has tried everything, nothing is helping her feel better.

I know with my daughter I barely had morning sickness and after I threw up I felt a ton better. So I told my aunt so just make herself throw up. See if that helps.

Sorry I don't have much advise but thought I'd tell you, you aren't the only one.But I do feel for you. I'd love to hear if anyone has anything that works too so I can pass the info along.

After my Aunt tried to concieve for 3.5 years I keep telling her this is her way of knowing she's still pregnant each day and a that things are working.
