More Milk?

I returned to work almost three months ago. I am gone from 7am to almost 6pm. I feed my daughter before leaving for work and upone returning and many times on the weekends. I pump two times a day at work and starting this week my milk for the day went from about 10 oz to about 4 oz. Is there anything I can eat or do to make more milk. I do know i have been under a little more stress than usual these last few weeks.

What can I do next?

Mother's Milk tea by Traditional Medicinals. It really increased my supply. You could also add one more pumping session if it's possible.

At this age, I would be pumping 3x. Two breaks and while you eat your lunch, if possible. Drink lots of water, eat oatmeal (whole grain not instant) and take some fenugreek. If all else fails, if you can take a day or two off and just do a "nursing marathon" day, relax and cuddle in bed all day, that is the best thing for your supply.

Here is info on fenugreek dosing
http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/milksupply/fenugreek.html

The tea won't help much because it doesn't have enough of the herb in it to effect you much.....unless you drink gallons of it.

Hi G.,
Taking fenugreek with blessed thisel helps. If it gets really bad and you still want to nurse, talk to your dr. I was prescribed medication to help produce more milk when my production was low and it really helped.
Good luck,
K.

I'm sure you probably know that milk is supply and demand. I think pumping more would help, I've heard of teas that are supposed to work. Mothering.com will have more answers for you.

Try and limit your stress. I know it is easy to say and hard to do! Especially now with the holidays and three children to take care of. I have decided that stress was the main cause of me and my friend having a lack in production. I tried the tea and it only made me produce about an ounce more per feeding. I don't think I caught mine early enough to get it back. I ultimately had to quit, and it was extremely depressing for me. I just wanted you to know that you are not alone. Try the tea and if that doesn't start helping that day or the next, call your doctor immediately because if you wait to long they said that there was no way to reverse it. I really hope it works out better for you! Good luck to you and your little ones!

add another pumping session if you can or pump a bit longer each session. Also, try pumping right after you nurse if you can. I know that time does not always alow...so try this website. LOTS of great info on boosters.

Keep up the great work...there are lulls, but it is worth it in the end.

I would try pumping more too as others have said due to the supply/demand factor.

Stress could be the culprit... supply demand issues.... or even your menses.

Good for you for pumping at work.

Oatmeal, Fennel in the water, fenugreek and the tea are all helpful for some people but nothing takes the place of removing milk from the breast.

Some women need to pump more than others due to breast storage capacity. Good luck!

Go to a LLL meeting for more advice!

I don't think you'll be able to get back to 10oz but I had the same problem with two kids and this is what I was told to do:

Pump more often, probably best to add after night or morning feeding( I did it up to every two hours for several days at one point)
try Fenugreek
drink dark beer
eat oatmeal
eat well and limit stress

I was told also that your baby is able to get more ounces during nursing than you can get with your pump.
Good luck!!

Try healthy nursing tea. I had the same issue and got my supply better with this remedy.
