Wondering if anyone would highly recommend a Montessori school in the Dallas area? I live in Farmers Branch. Also...any thoughts on DISD? My hubby and I keep going back and forth on whether or not to stay in our current home (elementary school is recognized) or to move to a better district. Input would be GREAT!

We love A Child's Garden in Carrollton at Whitlock and Old Denton. I highly recommend it, but they don't accept kids under 18 months old. Let me know if you have any questions.

I would recommend Westwood Montessori. Great curriculum, caring teachers. Not every Montessori is the same.

I cannot speak about Montessori schools as I have no experience there - but there is a couple of Montessori schools in the DISD - George Bannerman Dealey and (darn... can't remember the name of the other one -Stone something???) - they are exemplary schools -

my 2 daughters are in the DISD now and we are having no problems with either one -

My youngest is at DeGolyer and my oldest just started Jr. High at T.C. Marsh - both of which are recognized schools this year.

Don't believe everything you hear and read - DISD is great!
The more the parents are involved at the school the better it will be for you and your child!!

my daughter attended a montessori school in carrolton I would only recommend this school when your child is 3 years old. they made a lot of changes and the teacher of the 2 year old class is a older lady that is very stern and doesn't have kids, therefore no patience. I could go on an don. But, there are lots of other great montessori schools so check them all out carefully.

Hi, K.! I cannot say enough incredible things about the HEBISD. If you'd consider making a move to the mid-cities, let me know and I'll expand upon this.

It's a bit out of the way for you, but I looked in to dozens of school and chose Castle Hills in Carrollton. They also have locations in Flowermound and McKinney depending where you move eventually. The minimum age is 18 months, but by and large, they are the best of all the schools I researched (montessoris, primrose, christian private, etc.). My hubby and I always say our daughter (3) is getting her college fund now, but I swear it's worth every penny when she comes home singing songs in Spanish and Chinese. She grows and nutures her own plants in the classroom; she learns about other cutlures; she gets nutritious food unlike most schools; her teachers speak the class alternanting English and Spanish. There is 24 hour video surveillance in each classroon. I could go on and on. If you're the same K. I'm thinking of, we used to work together. PM me if you want more info. But here's the link to check out: www.castlemontessori.com
In the end, I learned that not all montessoris are the same caliber, so do your homework!

Windsong Montessori in Farmers Branch is a very good school, as is The Westwood School which is on Proton, off Midway and Spring Valley. Both have websites and see what you think!

In Richardson near Arapaho and Floyd is a wonderful little school called Dallas North Montessori (not to be confused with North Dallas Montessori - a larger school we attended for 8 months and were not so impressed with, though others have been happy there). Dallas North is very small - just one elementary class and one preschool, each taught by one of the two owner/founders of the school. It has been there almost 30 years. My son was very happy there, learned a lot, there is great focus on responsibility, care for the earth, curious exploration, healthy choices - it was an all-around good experience.

Hi, K.--

I can only speak for the school in my neighborhood as far as elementary schools go. It is Canyon Creek Elementary in Richardson, an exemplary school numerous times with very dedicated parents and teachers. RISD is also considered an excellent school district and has been recognized as such. One of the math teachers at Pearce High School was just in the Dallas Morning News this week because of awards he had received.

The Canyon Creek/Prairie Creek subdivision is also a great place to live! There are homes in many price ranges, from "fixer-uppers" right on up to golf course lots. I believe that the Prairie Creek Elementary is also good. You do have to be careful if you move too far north into the neighborhood because that will put you in Collin County and the Plano ISD. Of course, Plano is supposed to be good as well.

If you decide on a Montessori school, I have heard that St. Alcuin's in Dallas is a good one. It's over by Cooper Aerobics Center.
