Hello All,

Mom's turning 80 at the end of this month. She and I discussed it and she said all she wanted was a small dinner party at her favorite restaurant. I made reservations for 12 yesterday.

I am planning on doing a special cake and the restaurant said we can bring in flowers or balloons if we wanted to make the table a little more festive.

Here's my question:: I was thinking of doing a small party favor and there are only 12. Do any of you have any ideas of what would be a nice and appropriate take away for our guests?

Mind is blank on this one. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hoping all are well, S.

What can I do next?

if you have pictures of the guests with your mom over the years? A collage thank you card that you can set at the plate and have them take home with them - thank you for sharing your life with me or some other phrase.

Happy birthday to your mom!

I would ask someone on the staff to take a group pic of all of you. Then have them made in to a card and have your mom write a nice personal note to each person who attended and mail it to them. That's awesome! Good luck.

mini metal box with m&m's or nuts, small flower pots with an artificial flower in it (or a plant potted in dirt if you have a green thumb) coffee mugs with candy in them, photo albums with a picture of the guest and your mom together.soaps, bath fizzies

Personally I probably would only do a party favor for any children in your group and then I'd probably make the favor some snacks that can tide them over until their meal comes.

Love the photo idea also. Someone I know gave out little DVDs of movies made from photos - set to music - that someone whipped up on computer. It's a bit more work involved, but they played the video at the dinner too - nice touch. Everyone had sent in photos of themselves with her over the years and then of course pictures from her life - from baby up.

I think it would depend upon the ages and genders of the guests. I don't know if where you live might have access to this, but in our city there is a candy shop which sells "retro" candies...candies that many people over 60 grew up eating which are widely available now. It would acknowledge her age and there are very few people who don't enjoy candy!

This place sells coffee mugs from special years (80th birthday is one of them) with newsworthy events, photos, trends and toys pictured on the mug. A mug for everyone with a few fresh flowers in them at everyone's plate might be a nice favor and decoration in one.

We made little bags of Hershey candy for a baby shower. A card attached said "thanks for making our day so sweet." Rachel and Mo's baby shower and the date. The guests all loved them.

Would it be possible to take a nice portrait photograph of your mother and get prints? My mother treasures the last of my grandmother, taken when she was still mobile. It was a rare candid shot and it had been years since anyone had taken her photo before that.

I do like the idea of the photo later on where you can have her write a thank you note with each one.

My sister hosted our mom's 80th birthday surprise birthday party. We had relatives from all over and it was phenomenal. Everyone signed a huge poster on the wall and my mom had it up until she passed away. A photo of her with everyone would have been a nice gesture.
