I am looking for some information on how to go about opening a shop and finding some investors. I have had this dream for a long time. Every time I pick up an Essence, Ebony or any other magizines I don't see any full-figure models. So many full-figure woman fight with their weight, appearance, low self-esteem, etc. I find that some of us Full-fugure need love to. Therefore, I feel full-figure woman can look sexy too and be loved and in love. I have visited Lane Bryant and some other plus size stores and they just don't have the sexy sensual look in lingerie. This is my passion and I want to fulfill my dream and make it come true so that I can help the next woman feel confident in herself. If you know of anyone who would be willing to sit down with me to look at my plans or if you have any ideas pass them on. I truly want to make a difference in the full-figure world of beauty.

What can I do next?

Try contacting SCORE. They are a group of volunteers who help people get a business started. I would just try a google search to find them.

Hi S.. Great idea. I'll be there. Like someone mentioned, the SBA (Small Business Association)is a good start -- you're a woman which is an advantage. If you're any other minority, it might be helpful for grants and government loan programs. If you have a disability that effects your ability to work, there's BVR -- they have a program called Enterprise Works which helps people with disabilities start their own business. Wish I knew of some investors for you. Also, try Craigslist Columbus. It's got message boards and also other resources. Good Luck!

Hi Shelia:

I would like to see this happen for you. I have heard there are some funds available in our community for minority businesses. I do not know if you are a minority? I am full figured, confindent, and I am dating. I love myself, Christ, and I have a grown son who is 20. I can do some research in my spare time, and ask some people I know who work for the city of columbus. Another way is to find someone who can write a grant. You do not pay them back, but you must adhere to what they specify. You can email me at ____@____.com. I would love to see your ideas. Have a great day.

Hi S.. That's a wonderful idea. I haven't seen any traditional stores like it, but I do know of one very successful, multi-million dollar, full-figure lingerie e-commerce website: www.hipsandcurves.com. You might look at their approach, messaging and position to help you tailor your business plan. There's plenty of resources available online if you type "business plan" into a search engine. There's also some great books at the library on the subject. Good luck in your venture! Keep working on it. I can't believe Victoria's Secret makes so much money on their super small sizes when the average American woman is a size 12-14!

Honey if you do get a store opened PLEASE let me know.... I was just talking with my husband tonight about the fact that I can't find anything sexxy at a regular store.... I'm not really fat but I have large breasts (40DD) and I've always been thick and it's like the lingerie makers think thick women can't want something that looks or feels good. Drives me nuts! GL with this venture. I pray it works out well for you.

I don't have any ideas on investors, but I wanted to tell you that your idea is WONDERFUL! I've stopped trying to find cute bras and lingerie because there's absolutely no point in looking. I would love to know when you open your store. I'm probably not model material, but I'll definitly come and check things out. :)

The SBA has both grant and loan programs and would be able to help you in laying out solid plans to help you succeed.
