Hi everyone -

My 3 year old son has had molluscum contagiosum under his arm pit and upper chest area for the past few months. In December our pediatrician advised us to give it some time to see if it will clear up on its own...it hasn't and he has more bumps now. We have an appointment this week with a dermatologist but I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this and if there are any effective homeophathic treatments? Thanks!

What can I do next?

My 8yo son has this. We went to the derm b/c one started bleeding and we couldn't get it to stop. Even after several days we had just been keeping a bandage on it be cause it happened over the weekend. He only had 3 at the time so the derm put something on them to help them slough off. I don't recommend it. First it made a huge blister then a really nasty sore until they finally fell off. Some more have come up and my husband tried wart remover (because they are related to warts) and it seemed to work but my son wouldn't let us put it on on a regular basis so they are still there. I think I may try the tea tree oil Mimi suggested. Good luck! If you find anything that works well, let me know.

i have no clue. i actually was just researching this a minute ago. i have twin 2 year olds and one of them has this. i am an at home mom. they dont have a babysitter or go to daycare. and nobody i know has this. where did she get it. all i know is that they use liquid nitrate to get the bumps/blisters off. but i was just reading that it could take 6 months to a year to go away. and it can spread if the person irritates it. my daughter has had it for like 4 or 5 months now and our ped said the same thing. but its kind of freaking me out now. i read it is in the wart family. and also to, that in adults and teens doctor usually refer to it as an std. i am curious to see what you find out so please let me know. thanks

If you want a homeopathic remedy, then why don't you go and see a homeopath (or naturopath) practitioner? We started seeing a naturopath several years ago and have been very pleased with the results. We don't get as sick as our friends do, in fact my 4 yo has not been sick at all for at least a year now.

My son 7, and my daughter 6, both have this. We were told it would clear up too. I can tell the bumps have improved in appearance, but they do look worse than they are. My doctor told me sometimes going through a dermatologist wont have any effect, but to do what we felt would be right for our family. Since they dont pose a problem, I'm not going to do anything, unless my ped. recommends it. Good Luck.

Sorry to hear about this. There are way to many things out there now days that were never problems years ago. Here is another website I found for a product that cures it with testimonials. Good Luck!

Freeze off wart remover worked for us on the advice of our pediatrician. Our son couldn't stand having me hold it on for as long as directions on box, so it took more treatments of less tim). Cured in about 4-5 treatments.

My son had this and it lasted for a year- started behind his knee. After playing soccer with shingaurds, one got very infected and he had to have it sliced...Other than that, they didn't bother him and went away on their own. There was an antacid that the derm. prescribed, but I don't feel it worked. It just takes time. And don't bath the kids together or let them share towels. I believe my son picked it up from the pool over the summer. Don't worry- this really isn't a big deal and will eventually go away if you leave it alone. My Ped. Derm wouldn't do any removal b/c he said it would be more painful than was neccessary b/c they would go away by themselves. Sometimes in as little as 3 months, but can last up to a year.
