Miscarriage and Now Pregnant I Think

I had a miscarriage in December at only 6 weeks. My OBGYN stated that because it was early they consider it to be like a late period and that my body should go back to normal the next month. This is my second miscarriage as I had another one at 10 weeks in December 05 however after that was able to conceive and deliver a healthy baby girl in January 07. As I waited for my period to arrive this month it hadn't as my dr. had suggested so to just be safe I took a test and it was positive.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses you have put my mind at a little ease for the time being. I did go to the Dr's and it is confirmed that I am pregnant, however my HCG levels are lower than normal. I have had multiple blood tests the last week to see if my levels are doubling. One day they doubled however the other days I went for the bloodwork they went up but not doubled. My doctor right now is staying positive that they are increasing but they are still lower than normal. I will be having an ultrasound in a few weeks to find out if the baby is developing normally so fingers crossed. Thank you everyone for all your responses hopefully everything will turn out fine.

Don't worry about the lack of pregnancy symptoms - every pregnancy is different. I didn't have any symptoms, and had a healthy baby. You are understandably nervous given your past history - a blood test is a reliable indicator if the urine tests haven't convinced you. You can also look into Reliv nutritional products - lots of protein, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients - research-based and with a 20 year history of doing things that many other companies are just coming up with now. Totally safe for everyone, full nutrition and you won't need pre-natal vitamins. Babies born to Reliv mothers have strong immune systems, great development, and nutrient-rich umbilical cords. You can find a distributor through reliv.com and also hear/read thousands of success stories. Take care of yourself and your baby!

3 days after I missed my period, I began vomitting with my first daughter. I was more than 3 weeks late before I even took a pregnancy test for my second daughter! I only felt nauseous for about a week somewhere around the 14-16 week time frame. Point is, each pregnancy (even if the child is the same sex) IS totally different. I like to think that they begin to share their uniqueness with us as soon as possible. Please understand that I am far from suggesting that you're free from the possiblity of another miscarriage, as I am not a doctor. But, if all tests and doctors appointments point to a healthy baby, and your mama instincts aren't going nuts, take the time to enjoy the differences this new adventure holds for you and your family. May God bless you all.

Well, as strange as it may sound, I didn't know I was pregnant till I was almost 4 months with my first! I am the type of person who generally has an irregular period, and could go months without one. I only noticed when my breasts became tender. I wouldn't worry too much, just take care of yourself, and Congratulations!

I'm sorry for your repeated miscarriages. Something that's good to remember is that after a miscarriage, you can still show positive on a pregnancy test for the next 8 weeks because there's still HcG (pregnancy hormone) in your system. What you'd need to do is have the dr draw blood tests and see if your hormone levels are doubling each day. If they are doubling rather than gradually decreasing, you could be pregnant. And it is definitely possible, since it's very common for you to be your most fertile within the three months after a miscarriage such as you described.

Good luck, and I hope that you are pregnant.

Good luck with your doctors appointment. I hope that you don't have a false positive. I had a miscarriage in September around 5-6 weeks and my doctor said it could take 6 months to get back to normal and boy has it. It took 8 weeks after the miscarriage to get a period an than 9 weeks to get another one. I am going on the 6-month mark in February and am hoping I will finally straighten out. Just make sure to check with your doc about any concerns about getting pregnant right away. I know when I had my miscarriage my doctor told me to wait until I've had at least one normal cycle before getting pregnant because a pregnancy right after a miscarriage can increase your risk of it happening again. Good luck!!!

Hi M.,

I have been pregnant 9 times and have 4 healthy children, so I know what you are going through. In my experience a miscarriage can be incomplete and therefore you will test positive for HGC. I needed a D&C after two of my miscarriages to resolve this issue. With a third the doctor did weekly blood tests to follow the reduction in HGC and I didn't need a D&C that time.

Through NaproTechnology at my local Catholic hospital they determined the miscarriages were caused by a drop of progesterone just before I would normally start my period even though I was in fact pregnant. So, for my fourth child I had to give myself progesterone shots for six months to maintain the fetus. After that I stabalized and was able to carry him full term.

My children are 15, 13, 11 & 7. Best of luck to you.

M.,
Before having my daughter in 2/07, I had 3 miscarriages. With each pregnancy I had every classic pregnancy symptom. Our daughter was actually finally conceived via IVF and I was conviced that it hadn't worked because I didn't have ANY of the recognizable symptoms. At about 9-10 weeks it hit me like a ton of bricks. If the home tests (which are less sensitive then the MD blood test) came back positive then you probably are pregnant. Good luck and maybe you'll have a nice, "easy" pregnancy.

A pregnancy test measures the hormone HCG (human chorionic gonadatropin) and cannot show a false positive; false negatives are common because HCG levels have to reach a certain level before they are detected.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, and good luck.

Of course, still see/talk to your doctor, but there is a slight possibility that the test is reading residual hormones from the miscarried pregnancy and causing a faulse-positive. I used to work in a Birth Center and we would do blood test to read homone levels after a miscarriage. They stick around for a little and that might be what's happening. Your doc will do a blood test and maybe 2 (one as a base line and one a few days later to see the hormones levels increase, as they would in pregnancy). So best to just wait for those results before you get yourself to mentally going, one way or the other.

Hello,
I am a great grandmother now but I had five pregnancies... losing one son.
I knew immediately with my girls when I was pregnant. I was sick even before the missed pregnancy. But my two boy pregnancies, the symptoms came later.
I had a healthy pregnancy after I lost my son, my daughter lost two pregnancies and has a healthy son, my oldest lost one pregnancy and had three healthy babies afterwards.
Don't panic. When you see the doctor he or she should be able to ease your mind.
Hope all goes well for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Jan

Hi M..

I had my daughter in Jan 07 as well. I was 8 weeks along before I realized I hadn't gotten a period in awhile (I had an irregular cycle). I took a home preg test (two actually) and found out I was pregnant. I had no sign or symptoms. I had miscarried many years before and did have all the classic signs with that one.

With no symptoms, I went on a deliver (c-section) a very healthy and usually happy baby.

I hope all goes well for you.
