Hi lady's, Can a doc tell if u miscarried? My period was over 2 weeks late last month and when it finally came it wasnt right and ALOT of pain i couldnt move i was in so much pain my husband wanted to take me to the hospital. So went to the gyno today for a check up and asked him about it and he said it is possible that i miscarried but there is no y to find out for sure but he really thinks i did. My friend miscarried a few months ago she said they did a test on her to see cuz she wasnt sure. So is there really a test out there that can tell if u miscarried or not? I mean if i was i wasnt that far in to it, I was only like 4 to 6 weeks.

What can I do next?

If you were that early, I think the only thing the doctor can really test would be your hcg levels (pregnancy hormone) and if those levels are too low to detect or are at normal levels then they wouldn't be able to tell for certain. Sometimes the physical symptoms are more important than the hormone levels and testing they could do anyway.

I had a pregnancy loss at about 4 months along and while we knew I was pregnant and going through a horrible miscarriage I never once had a positive pregnancy test. Not for 4 months. I had every single symptoms of pregnancy except the rising hcg (which was probably why I lost the pregnancy or a sign that the pregnancy wasn't viable).

If your friend was farther along, then that could be why they were able to run some tests, especially if at one point she had positive pregnancy tests.

I don't know if it necessarily confirms a miscarriage, but when I had mine, they did a sonogram to confirm that everything had passed and they wasn't anything left in my system. Also, they ran a few blood tests over a couple of weeks to make sure my levels all went down to normal.

I agree sounds like a miscarry. The only way they can tell is your blood count cant remeber what it is called but they have to test it and 24 hrs later test it again. if you have already miscarried the numbers won't show up in the blood test that they need. If you miscarried you would have been sitting on the toilet for a long time constantly bleeding. I spent 3 hrs there. and had like a cycle for 3 days and spotted for another week. I don't know if you have a kid but if you have been in labor miscarriage hurts worse than labor.

I believe a blood test could determine if you were pregnant because after a miscarriage the pregnancy hormone decreases but a low quantity will remain for several weeks.

You would have elevated HCG levels if you miscarried. This would not be normal if you had never been pregnant.

If it was a while ago, like a month ago, then probably not. Sometimes you just don't get to know. I had one of those some years back - TTC, the symptoms of pregnancy, the slightly late period and then the symptoms ended. There's no medical need to know so early on. Later in pregnancy, it may be necessary to confirm that all fetal matter has completely miscarried for medical reasons. Good luck and if you are trying to have a baby, then I hope it will happen for you very soon

Yes you can tell if you have a miscarriage. Of course, your period will be late, and you won't have a period until you either give birth or miscarriage. The pain of a miscarriage is more painful than a regular period. And yes their is a blood test that test the hormone level of pregnancy. The number decreases as you move more towards a miscarriage, than giving birth. I suffered two miscarriages back to back, over two months, so yes it is possible to have a short term pregnancy.
