Is anyone using the Mirena IUD as their birth control method? My husband and I are pretty sure we're done having kids, and I'm exploring some long-term birth control options. I've heard the occational horror story about IUDs but would like to hear from others. Side effects? Pain? Good experiences?

What can I do next?

I have the Mirena, since Nov 07 and have had no problems with it. If I ever get my period it is just cramping for a day and light spotting. No weight gain from it. Great choice for me!

I have had a Mirena for 3 yrs now and I love it. Initially it was uncomfortable as I felt strange, however, withn a few weeks it was fine. I do not have any period anymore and love that aspect. I still get all the symtomes of a period, belive it or not. I have gained a little weight but I don't excericise so that must really be the reason. Overall, I am very happy with the experience I am very happy I don't have to worry abput getting pregenant.

hello
I have just recently had an IUD placed. Not Mirena but Paragard. It's a copper one with no hormones like Mirena (my mother had hormonal breast cancer so we wanted to stay away from any extra hormones that weren't necessary). I have had a really good experiece so far....I had some bleeding and cramping only for about 36 hours after, nothing that tylenol or midol didn't help with. I just had my first period and it actually seemed lighter. I do not feel anything at all, I am just supposed to check for the little strings every now and then. However, I have found about 4 people that i know/work with that have become pregnant while having and IUD!!

I've had the Mirena IUD since September, and I love it. I used to get frequent migraines when I was on the pill, as well as acne, and my mood swings were awful. All of that is gone. It's wonderful to not have to think about birth control on a daily basis. This must be what it's like to be a guy!!
