Does anyone have a small microwave that doesn't beep at you for everything that you would like to recommend? My SO hates our microwave because it beeps when it's done, beeps when you push the buttons, beeps beeps beeps. I don't care, but he says that he's going to go nuts if we don't find something else =) Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We just got ours last year and there is no way to make it stop beeping unless we open it up and cut the wire. He tried but didn't have the tools to open it so we are in the market for another and unfortunately, all the ones I've looked at doesn't clearly state the option to turn off the sounds.

Do you have a setting where you can silence it? Mine can be silenced--and it was made in the 90s, so I tend to think that most new ones would be adjustable

Before cutting any wires or buying a new one, I would go online and see if there is some other option to get it to stop beeping or at least find out if there is a 1-800 customer service number to call. I understand how he feels, mine doesn't bother me except during those times I can't sleep or wake up early and it seems like everything I want to do involves the microwave beeping. All of the other sleepers in the house probably don't hear it but it makes me nervous that I'm going to wake someone else up just because I want a cup of hot chocolate. I never even thought about being able to turn off the beeper. Now I have another project for today.

My original response is below, but just for the heck of it I went and looked on my microwave and sure enough, I have a "sound" button and it lets me select 0=mute, 2=norm...... Strangely enough there's even a "childlockout" feature for those kiddos who can't stop pressing buttons.

Inside of the microwave says it was manufacturered May 2007.
It's made by GE (www.ge.com) and the model number is:
WES1450DM1BB Hope you can find it! Online it says it's no longer in production, but maybe Ebay? http://products.geappliances.com/ApplProducts/Dispatcher?...

Hmm. I don't have a model number or anything to give you. But I use my microwave very very rarely. Maybe once a week? And when I do use it, I hit the "30 second" button more often than any other button. So that's only one "beep" per 30 seconds. 30 seconds for me = 1 beep. 30 seconds for your husband probably equals 4 beeps ('cook time', 3, 0, 'start').

What do I do instead of microwave? - use a pot, a pan, a skillet, toaster oven, whatever. My stirfry leftovers taste way better sauteed in a pan with a little butter than in the microwave. Chicken nuggets or leftover pizza are way yummier in the toaster oven (only a "ding" when you the timer goes off). Leftover spaghetti last week was super-delish when I put it (noodles and sauce) in a pan, added some water for steaming, added olives, pepperoni, bell pepper, fresh spinach..... Not a microwave was touched.

Good luck - I hope someone answers with a good answer for you. I have never seen one that doesn't make noise though.

If you can't silence it (check the manual), then how about one of those counter top ovens?

if your SO is only bothered by the beeping from the microwave, I don't know what to suggest. If, however, this person is being driven nuts by other sounds, whether loud sudden noises or high pitched noises like appliances beeping - perhaps they should get a check up at the doctor. These symptoms (bothered by noise) could be a signal of something that needs to be detected.
