Micronor Birth Control Pill - Flower Mound,TX

Hi Moms,

Do any of you take the Micronor (progestin only) birth control pill? I am thinking about switching to it (I am on Yasmine right now). The only reason I am thinking about switching is to stop taking Estrogen. The fewer hormones the better, right? However, I just googled Micronor and it listed a lot of side effects. TIA, M.

What can I do next?

I took it while nursing and didn't have any problems either. Good luck with your decision!

I, too, took it while nursing, then for another 5 months before we started trying again, just bc it didn't seem worth the bother to switch back to ortho-tricyclen, which I'd been on before. I agree with no side effects, and also that it's slightly less effective than combi pills (but still better than just a condom). But I'd still consider whether you'd just rather not get pregnant, or whether you'd consider it a real tragedy if you did. Also, the other downside for me was that I've always had terrible PMS, and the combi pills made that go away. Micronor doesn't help at all with PMS--it'll be just like you're on nothing. However, if your PMS isn't that bad anyway, you don't need to worry about that. GL with your decision!

Hi Michelle,

I took micronor when nursing and had no side effects. I actually think I had LESS side effects (if any) with micronor than with any other pill I've taken. I think you're going to read a lot of side effects when you look up info on Birth control. It's best to just try different ones out for a mnth and see what suits you best. I plan on continuing the micronor even after nursing because I like the one hormone only factor about it and it's not as "strong" as other bc pills because it only has the one hormone but I've never gotten pregnant while taking it correctly so I'm not worried.

Take care!

I'm taking it because I'm nursing and it's the only pill that won't dry me up. I haven't had any side effects at all with it; no spotting, no headaches, no weight gain, nothing. It's great. I think it's different for everyone though but good luck!

Hi M.,

I'm also taking Micronor while nursing and it's been great. I haven't had any side effects, so it probably is different for everyone. It's slightly less effective than the combination pill, so if you are really fertile you might want to talk to your doctor about that. As an aside, when I first started BC, the estrogen in the first pill I tried gave me migraines.

Good luck!
