Microfiber Couch Advice

I have an off-white microfiber couch which has gotten milk stains on it and is getting a bit dingy. Can I throw it in the wash? They are covers and they come off. Is that safe to do or should I try something else? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I probably depends on your couch. There are "nice" microfiber sofas with brands such as Lane and Ashley and then there are knock offs that are less durable. I have an Ashley microfiber sofa and have had it for about four years. During that time I have washed the coushon covers in the washing maching and dryed them in the dryer 4 or 5 times and they are fine. I probably wouldn't risk it with a knock off brand, though.

I steam clean areas that get dirty that cannot be thrown into the washer - but the washer does a great job on the covers. I use woolite, warm water and a gentle cycle - and dry them in the dryer on medium heat.

Blessings,
P.

I have something very similar (ashley) if not the same furniture, but we use Neutrogena deep cleaner, it is orange in color in the pump bottle, approx 3 squirts into a 16 oz spray bottle, try to find one that has a mist spray versus the hard stream, if that makes sense. Sounds strange, but the company that we bought the furniture from used that on it and it will CLEAN anything and everything on it. Just spray it directly to the area with a clean, non-colored hand towel to scrub the area with and it takes about 15 minutes for the area to dry, but works like a charm EVEN on INK and crayon and what ever else my daughter gets a hold of. Let me know if you have any questions.

With Micro fiber you must make sure that you do not wash it with anything cotton and do not use fabic softener. This is true for any mircofiber the cotton sticks in the fibers and you will not be able to get the cotton out. Hope that this helps.

I have an Ashley "Stone" colored couch (off white- microfiber) I use just water and a white towel or a Magic Eraser by Mr Clean! Just the other day, my 17month old spit out a chocolate cookie and somehow had it all over the couch and loveseat! So, I just wetted the sponge (magic eraser) and used it! It works great, you cant even tell there was ever anything there! I would recommend that, however I do not have cushions I can wash, good luck!

I think you can wash the covers, although I would call a furniture store to confirm that. However, I shampoo. I used to have microfiber and shampooed it so many times! I like the Rug Doctor, so that's what I always use. You can rent tools with it ($3) extra. You can use their upholstery cleaner, or you can just use the same cleaner you'd use on the floor. Since I haven't seen your couch, I'd test a small spot or use an arm cover if you still have them. There is another mixture of products you can use to run thru the Rug Doctor if using their's does not work. I've used it probably 100 times over the past 10 years. (my friends always want me to help shampoo) Mix Tide, Ammonia and Vinegar. You can use equal parts, but you will find that you will need less Tide because of suds. You will need to purchase an Anti-Foam liquid that you can use in the machine. You could use about a 1/4 cup Tide, 1/2 cup ammonia and a 1/2 cup vinegar. And again, you would probably want to test a spot whether it's carpet or furniture. IF you have an animal in the house, I think I'd stick with using the manufacturer products in the machine versus my mix because of the ammonia. It might tend to make a pet wet on the carpet. Hope it helps.

I have washed mine, I used regular detergent on the delicate cycle. I was desperate though, my cat had urinated on them, so even if they were ruined in the wash, I was going to have to get rid of them anyway, so it wasn't a gamble for me.
