Our oldest daughter will get cramps really bad that time of the month, I have never experienced this. What do you do when you get cramps to the point where all you can do is ball up on the bed and do nothing else for the rest of the day.

What can I do next?

I take a double dose of ibuprophen and soak in a hot tub or use a heating pad on my stomach. My cramps are due to endometriosis.

Ask her doctor about using a higher dosage of Motrin than what's on the bottle. There are also prescription meds that can help.

The times in my life that I wasn't exercising consistently were the only times I've had cramps. If she doesn't get regular exercise, this could help.

She needs to see her doctor first so it can be documented. She may have pain reliever that will help. If all else fails at some point they may suggest she be put on a VERY low dosage of Birth control pills.

Our daughter would take Motrin, drink warm to hot Chamomile Tea and use a heating pad on her abdomen.

I was the same way. I would be in horrible pain.. The good news? I did not think child birth was very bad. I had no idea contractions were just like menstrual cramps.

My daughter had this too, caused by endometriosis. She was put on the pill at 15, in order to fix her issue she needs to be on the pill 3 months off one week for a period, then on for 3 monhs. She was an A student who spent 3-4 days in bed evertime she got her period. If your daughter doesn't get treatment she could become infertile. Get her into a doctor.

Take her to the doctor and go through all the options available and choose the ones that make the most sense to you.

I've dealt with this since I was 12. I was put on BC pills at 12. Crazy, I know, but it made ALL the difference. I didn't know what bad cramps were until I went off the pill to become pregnant. I had issues with infertility for over 6 years (I do not think this is related to taking the pills for so long). I have been diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). Something I think I was born with. My mom had the same symptoms (she is deceased now so I can't actually compare....but heard enough stories to think it was the same....and thinking my grandmother had it too....same issues).

When I am finished breastfeeding my baby, I plan to go back on the pill EVEN THOUGH I have my tubes tied.

Thank you for taking her seriously. Really bad cramps are terrible. I am out for the count for the first 2 days of my period each time due to terrible cramps (I take high dosage Ibuprofen around the clock for 3 days) and have HEAVY bleeding (I have to wear depends with pads in them).

BC pills really did help me. Please look at them as a medication with a side benefit of birth control.

I have been dealing with BAD menstrual cramps since I was 13. They got so bad, that I had surgery to remove some cysts I had on my ovaries, but the cramps STILL didnt get any better. I tried birth control, and still, they didnt get any better. The things I found that worked the best are using a heating pad (I love, love, love, love my heating pad), ibuprofin (Its soo much better than tylenol for cramps), warm baths and peppermint tea (natural anti spasmotic). After I gave birth to my son, my cramps eased up ALOT. Its been 2 years, and theyre alot more tolerable now then they were pre-pregnancy.

What a wonderful mom you are!
I didn't start my period until 15 and then I didn't have another one for 6 months. The pain was so bad, I thought I was going to die. I literally couldn't move or walk.
My mother, God bless her, never had a cramp in her entire life and thought I was just being dramatic. My younger sister actually started her periods before I did and had no problems.
I think out of frustration, more than anything, she finally took me to the doctor.
I wasn't being dramatic, I had endometriosis.
I'm so glad you're getting your daughter to the doctor.

I didn't have it easy, but I did have two healthy children.
Age and other factors can come into it.
I went months with no periods and I always knew when I might start because I would get terrible pain in my legs and not be able to sleep for a couple of nights. Keeping moving actually did help me quite a bit.

I hope you can find some comfort for her.
Best wishes!

Short term, give her ibuprefren & a heating pad send her to bed. There is not much else that can be done (have been dealing with them for 24 years). I would take her to see an OBGYN. Bad cramps can be a sign of other issues like polycystic ovaries, endometriosis...

I misssed 2 days of school every month in high school because of this. I got drugs for it as an adult.
But I started taking Shaklee vitamins when I was forty and all my menstrual problems--including being told I had endometriosis - went away in less than 3 months.
What did it was B complex, Cal- mag and OmegaGuard.
Taking drugs and birth control pills just mask the problem and have lots of bad side effects.
Let me know if you are interested.
