ok this is a really dumb question and I think the answer is hormones. I heard a radio ad on the radio the other day giving symptoms of menopause. I had them all. I am only 42 and didn't think I was old enough for this. I talked to my aunt about it she said maybe just hormones but also suggested since I had a baby at 40 it may have screwed my body up and made me start it early. No my periods haven't started skipping yet. At what age did you get menopause symptoms? do you think this is just hormones? and bieng advanced maternal age will that effect my body and make menopause start early????

So What Happened?

Thank you for all the great responses. i didn't realize you could be premenopausal for so long. premenopause makes alot of sense. The girl who posted the covers on the covers off the covers on was describing me to a tee. and it explains why I fit menopause symptoms without being menopause age.

Hi D.,
You are probably in perimenopause.
I had my 2nd son at that age and had no menopause symptoms until I was 53. My period stopped and I never had one again. But that was because I planned for it with good nutritional supplements.
If would like I can send you an excellent cd with info on balancing your hormones. Also, here is a website where you can listen to health information: http://www.bobsfiles.net.
Hope this helps.

Dear D.: I believe you may be in the premenopause. If your period hasn't stopped, you didn't mention hot/cold flashes, moodiness etc. I think your hormones are just out of whack because of giving birth. You can go through menopause as early as 22 and up but don't let that alarm you. I went through menopause at the age of 38. Sporadic periods, hot/cold flashes, very moody, tossing covers off of bed, pulling them back up. You will know when you are going through menopause, its not something that you will miss. Not everyone has the same symptoms either. You could go through it smoothly or have to go on progesterone/hormone pills. If your Dr. feels it necessary at the time he will do a hysterectomy or partial, meaning the ovaries are left in. However, the percentage that leave the ovaries in end up going back and having them removed.
Take care!!

I ditto the other posters. I just turned 48 this week and can tell you I started having symptoms 10 years ago. I went to 4 doctors in 2 years and all they did was pat me on the head, tell me I was too young and hand me another prescription! I finally found a doc who said I was NOT too young and drew the blood work to prove it!!
Part of the problem is, is that most docs (especially GYN's) are men who have never experienced perimenopause or menopause and unless you fit the textbook, they blow you off. You can still have regular periods but have fluctuating hormones for 10-15 years before you have that last one!
When I talked to my mom and we compared notes, she too had symptoms fairly early but in those days they said basically she was nuts and handed her a script for valium!
You are not too young. I doubt it is because you are having a baby late either. Start watching your diet and try to limit and/or cut our as many packaged-processed foods as you can. Try to eat real food and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and symptoms may improve. They did for me anyway.
Good Luck

I am 36 yrs old and had pms increase after the birth of my daugther 4 yrs ago. After some research I discovered that as you get older and due to many environmental influences that US women can have severe premenapause. For me the solution was natural progesterone and modified diet. Greatly reduced my pms. I think the book that jump-started my research was What Your Doc Did Not Tell You About Menapause, by John Lee. I may not have the author correct but the title is close and I believe that he has several books out.

Menopause can start early for many women from what I have read. Lots of different things can cause it. I have had friends tell me their periods came and went sporadically for up to ten years. I was a single Mom (starting at age 25)raising a boy without his dad in the picture. I didn't date much and never let a man or anyone move in with us. Started gettting hot flashes around age 38, but didn't recognize them as that at the time. I had my WORST PERIOD EVER on my 41st birthday in February, 2002. My son was 15 at the time. Never knew what to expect or when after that. I bought a home (July,2002) and he (Derek) turned 16. We lost Derek and his best friend (also a Derek) in October that year in a train collision. My periods came real sporadical after that. After a couple years, I learned that that it didn't come back unexpected if I stayed away from men. It's been over four years since my last period and no longer worry about it coming back if I get involved with a man.

It is probably premenopause. We start having the symptoms about 10-12 years prior to menopause. Depending on what and how severe of symptoms I do suggest getting a natural hormone. Arbonne has one called Prolief which is wonderful. You can check it out on the web at www.successfromtheheart.myarbonne.com. If you have any questions feel free to call me at ###-###-####. Thanks, K.
