Please help...I feel so bad. We have been living in Jacksonville about a month and my son is really missing all his friends in Georgia. Anyone involved in a play group, church group, any kind of organized meeting for mom's with young children...anything where I can get out with my kids during the week and he can have regular interaction and make new friends. He is 4 and will be starting VPK this year, but I don't want him feeling so lonely for the next 6 months. I also have a 19 month old daughter. She of course is not struggling with the transition as badly, but friends for her would be nice too. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Hi J.

Do you live near a Y? if so, can you get the kids into swim classes? Also, the Y has daycare where you can put the kids while you workout. This might give them a chance to play with other kids and you the chance to meet other people in whatever classes you take, What I like about the Y is that you pay one fee and then can go to as many classes as you like... which of course, the more you attend the cheaper it is. Plus, they tend to be more family oriented and put on different events.. maybe give it a try. they may even have a day or week pass for free..

good luck

I found my playgroup on meetup.com.
I recently moved (getting divorced), so I understand the transition.

Do u have neighbors with children. Go to library, local pool, park. Put him in a gym class or music class. See if church has a play group

I live in Orange Park, just south of Jax. I don't know of any specific groups on Jax but if you PM what side of the area you are on I can send you some info. I know there are a lot of meetups in Jax but other than that I don't know.

Welcome to the area!!

S.

I agree with Heather P., try meetup. There are playgroups for parents with kids, single moms with kids, single dads with kids, etc. Also, maybe some of the kids in his school would be interested in a playdate. Ask your son to ask some of his classmates if they'd want to do a playdate, and if they say yes, put a note in the kid's bookbag or better yet, the lunchbox, that the mom will see, and include your phone # so she can call you and schedule something.

Looks for MOMSCLUB in the Jax area and join up with other mom's and kids. I belonged to it when my girls were younger and it helped a lot.

My girls are 4, but we live in TN. Sorry.
We did go to a park this past weekend and the girls played with a couple of kids around their age. Their mothers and I got talking and ended up sharing phone numbers so that next time we plan a trip to the park, we can let the others know in case they want to join us there.
I am usually a bit reserved about pushing myself on someone I just met, but with all the changes going on in my life right now, I thought, "Well, I guess I will step out of my comfort zone and ask them if they want to exchange contact information".
It was scary to put my feelings/ego on the line, but now we have new friends. (Me AND the girls!)
