Good Morning Ladies,I need some information please? Do any of you know if medicare/medicaid pays for eye glasses? If so do you know of a eye glass store to get your prescription filled? I live in South Fort Worth. I will drive elsewhere if i need to. I also have one more question. I have an older friend ,(doesn't have computer) her husband just passed away. She is looking for a DR. that accepts medicaid only. If any of you know this answer please would you tell me? She (my friend) lost her original medicaid. Apparantly it was changed to something else & now her Dr. don't accept it. I appreciate your answers & have a great day.

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

Tell your friend to contact UNT Health Science Center in FW. They are located at 855 N Montgomery and the phone # is ###-###-####. They have general medicine located on the 4th floor and have great Drs. As far as whether Medicare and Medicaid pay for eyeglasses I believe that they do. You can call just about any vision center and they will be able to answer that question for you. Good Luck.

Try calling Luck Optical about the glasses, they have been in business for many years, are located in West Fort Worth near the Weatherford Traffic Circle and Frank Kent Cadillac, and they should be able to steer you to the right place if they don't take it.

I know that my doctor takes other forms of insurance but he also has a significant contingency of aging patients so Dr. Greg Phillips, ###-###-####. I think what you are talking about is that some doctors only accept Medicaid if the person also has supplemental insurance. I think what she is looking for is a person that accepts Medicaid without requiring any additional insurance coverage.

Medicaid does cover an eye exam & glasses, however, you have to choose from their selection. Each vision center usually has a designated section of eye glasses that are covered by Medicaid, & you are required to make your selection from that section. You do have the option to pay the difference if you choose a pair that are not in that particular section. As far as where you can go- Wal-Mart accepts the insurance, TSO does, & I know that Luck Optical does as well. I have found that Luck Optical has a pretty good selection in their Medicaid section. They are located on Camp Bowie Blvd., close to Ridgmar Mall. Hope this helps!

My children have CHIPS and they pay for one pair of eyeglasses and one vision exam every year. Info should be on the back of your card.

I hope this is what you are asking.

Medicare and Medicaid are different. Medicaid does provide some coverage for eye glasses, but MediCARE does not pay for eye exams, contacts or glasses. There are some exceptions pertaining to diabetes and cataract extraction with implanted lenses. For more information on this you can go to www.Medicare.gov . If you don't qualify, I recommend AmeriPlan. For only $14.95/mo for an individual or $19.95/mo for the entire household you can get discounts of 20% to 60% on frames, lenses, tints, scratch-resistant coatings, etc. and 10% to 55% discounts on eye exams, and LASIK. Contacts are 10% to 40% off. They have over 12,000 optical providers nationwide, such as Lenscrafters, Sears, JC Penny, Pearle Vision, Target, WalMart & others. That low monthly membership fee also provides discounts of 20% to 80% on dental care, which MediCARE also does not pay for, as well as discounts of 25% to 50% on prescriptions and chiropractic treatment. There is a 30-day money-back guarantee too. If you would like more information go to http://www.DNShealth.com . I am an AmeriPlan benefits specialist and I can answer any questions you may have at ###-###-####. For a limited time you will get $300 in gas certificates for joining AmeriPlan! ~ N.
