I went to the doctor 5 days ago with a bad cough that hurt my chest when I coughed. The doctor thought I had bronchitis sends me away with a antibiotic and cough syrup. now 5 days later I've finished my antibiotic z-pack and still have a slight cough. I know that they stay in your system for several days after you finish them. But I have other symptoms that seem weird. I've stopped taking the cough syrup because I thought it was making me feel weird, but I'm not sure that it was the cough syrup because I haven't taken it for a day and a half and I stiill feel weird. I'm so tired, my head feels weird, I'm nauseous, can't eat anything because It feels when I eat it makes me more nauseous, I have a head ache, and my skin is sensitive, and I swollen sore glands on my neck, and I still have a cough. I've had bronchitis before and I've never felt this way before.

Could my doctor have diagnosed me wrong? i've been researching on the internet and have several of the symptoms of mono. I've never had that before and was wondering to those who have had that what were your symptoms.?

What can I do next?

Mono requires a blood test. I had mono when I was 18, was misdiagnosed as a sinus infection, given a antibiotic to which I had a funny reaction to (my face swelled up and I needed steroids to bring the swelling down). When I got a fever that would not go away and was so tired, AND they found the swollen knot gland at the back of my neck, they did the mono test (at the ER). Worth getting the blood test. There are certain activities you should refrain from if you have it due to spleen swelling and transmitting the virus.

Sounds like you may have something else going on other than bronchitis. It may not necessarily be a misdiagnosis. It's not uncommon to have one thing lead to another or to have two similar but separate things going on at the same time. With the symptoms you are discribing, I would book an appointment to go see your doctor right away. If he's not available any time within the next day or two, go to urgent care. Also, make sure that you are drinking enough fluids. That will help flush out whatever is ailing you and, sometimes when you are dehydrated, you can feel nauseous, weak and headachey.

Hope you feel better soon.

The doctor diagnosed and treated you for the symptoms you had at the time. If you feel you should be seen again my all means go and describe all of your new symptoms. Good luck!

Go back to the doctor for a follow up.
It could be what ever it was has developed into something else.
It's also possible you do not tolerate the cough medicine well.
Perhaps another type would work better for you.
A lingering cough and swollen glands doesn't narrow it down much.
A stubborn cold, walking pneumonia, sinus infection, bronchitis, pleurisy, TB, mono, strep, mumps gave me horrible swollen glands but not much of a cough, etc.
Your doctor will be a better diagnostician than anyone else.

YES! Doctors misdiagnose people all the time. That's why they call it a "practice".

Go back to the doctor, but also take your health into your own hands. Continue to do your research and if you don't see any improvement based on the new diagnosis and meds ask for an x-ray if you continue to have the cough.

I urge you to call your doctor and ask his advice. He diagnosed you based on the information he had at the time. You have new information. Call him.

It does sound like a good case of the flu. Scary, I know but after many flu episodes I learned that I always got well again. It just took time.

At 31 y/o, I was recently diagnosed with mono. I had really horrible persistent fevers (102-103), complete fatigue and body soreness/pain.

It's not a hard thing to ask for an Epstein Barr virus test.

Go back to the doctor.
Describe everything.
Ask for tests to determine what you've got
so that he (or she) can prescribe appropriately.
I don't think it's the cough syrup causing your symptoms.
Are you breastfeeding?

Go to wrongdiagnosis.com and look up these symptoms. I wuld start with sensitive skin and another symptom like swollen gland or cough. It can take a while but keep looking. Coughs and headaches are such a common symptom of most illnesses but perhaps if you put them all together with the less common ones you can find out what it is. Are there any other symptoms you are experiencing that you dont think are related? They might be.

Not only can doctors mis-diagnose peple, it is more likely they will misdiagnose that to pinpoint it- ESPECIALLY without any blood testing or any other tests. He was guessing.

I don't know what you could have, but I defiantely think your doctor diagnosed you wrong. I would go back and tell your doctor all of your symptoms. It very well could be mono like you think. Don't ignore this in case it's more serious than mono. Many doctors misdiagnose, so you need to be your own advocate. Best wishes.
