My husband and I are planning to have children but have some concerns about insurance. We have individual insurance because we own our own business. Is maternity insurance really worth it?

What can I do next?

Hi D.,
I don't really know anything about maternity insurance. But, I have known some women who have gotten pregnant by visiting a chiropractor. There is a good one in Dallas. His practice is called Trinity Family Chiropractic, ###-###-####.

good luck with everything!

Are you talking about your basic medical insurance covering maternity costs? Or disability for maternity leave?

We have our own business as well and I have searched and searched for affordable insurance. I don't know if you've looked at this already, but we ended up getting small business insurance. It's a little more expensive than individual insurance, but it covers maternity. We found ours at ehealthinsurance.com. You just have to have 2 employees to get it, which could be you and your husband. It's worked out for us!

It is definitely worth it. I got pregnant with twins that were born early right as I became self employed. It added a lot of stress that could have been avoided.
Once you get pregnant you can't get coverage. If you a part of a group plan you can but, try to get an individual plan, by law do not have to coever pregnancy.
One option that you may have if you and your husband are self employed is that you can get a group plan from whichever of you has the smallest business and get coverage, but the downside is you have to offer it to everyone in your company. Whaterver you do please make sure you have coverage before you get pregnant.

Hi there, I have two children with a third due any day. I have never heard of maternity insurance. What is it for? We do not own our own business, maybe this is why?
