I always end up in an epic fail when I try to pan fry my hashbrowns. Can you make them in the oven? If so how???

What can I do next?

Hi,

My husband makes the BEST (read: most amazing ever) hashbrowns. I think the trick is after shredding them - you have to rinse them to get the starch off.

I know someone else said they take about 10 minutes, but I think ours are closer to 20 - 30 minutes..

See if rinsing them helps at all.

Good luck to you!

I've never done my hashbrowns in the oven. I've never had a problem in my pan.

Shred the potatoes, while shredding the potatoes, heat the pan with enough oil to ALMOST cover the flat part of the pan....put the potatoes in - season them - sprinkle oil over the top....

Turn over when they are done to your liking. Cook again to your liking...it usually takes me about 10 minutes to cook my hash browns.

GOOD LUCK!

I've never done them in the oven. I cube potatoes, chop onions and bell peppers, and cook them in a cast iron skillet well greased with olive oil.

After you shred the potatoes, rinse them in cold water to release the extra starch, which makes a mushy mess. Then pat them dry. Put them down in a single layer in the saute pan. Season with salt & pepper. Give them a couple of minutes, then flip them over with a spatula and season the other side. Then once both sides have started to brown, you can mix them around in the pan until they are done. Probably even better if you fry some bacon in the saute pan and use the bacon fat as your oil...but I'm vegetarian so my family doesn't get that luxury with their hash browns. ;/

I never book my own.

I either buy those hashbrown patties in the frozen section of the market
or
cube potatoes & saute in olive oil.
