Makeup Question

Hi!
I have extremely dry skin, so dry that I have yet to find a concealer or foundation that works on my face. Everything that I have tried just makes my face even drier and flaky. I moisturize a ton. I have to. I use Cetaphil on my face just because I have never found anything that seems to work as well for me. I don't wear a ton of makeup, mostly just mascara and lip gloss. I don't like to look like I am wearing too much. A heavy foundation doesn't appeal to me. I would just like to occasionally wear something on my face to blend in the blemishes and many freckles that I have. Have any of you with really dry skin found some light makeup that works for you? Anything you could recommend?
Thanks so much for any advice!

So What Happened?

Thank everyone for all your advice. I have often wondered if a tinted moisturizer would be a good thing to try. I have heard sephora makeup is worth what you pay as well. I never thought of mixing a little moisturizer with my makeup either. So many great suggestions! I am sure I will find something that will work from the many great responses here. Thank you!!

I use an spf first:
http://www.neutrogena.com/product/age+shield+face+sunbloc...

I let that soak in for a few minutes. Then I put on Mary Kay mineral foundation after that has soaked in. I used to use Bare Minerals but found it was a bit thicker than I wanted. The MK is the perfect consistency. I buy mine off ebay.

At night, I cleanse with natural baby wash. Then apply Garnier Moisture Rescue Gel:

Let that soak in and then apply a thin layer of vaseline. I sleep with a humidifier and I don't turn on the ceiling fan which will dry out your skin.

Hope this helps! :)

I use bare minerals and I really like it. My skin is dry because I still deal with acne and my face wash dries out my skin. The bare minerals covers well and doesn't feel heavy. Try a exfoliating scrub a couple times a week, it really helps get the dry skin off and makes your skin look smoother. It also helps moisturizers work better.

Love Sephora - in particular I recently fell in love with the Philosophy brand they sell there - the face wash is really gentle and doesn't break me out. I've been experimenting with the Josie Maran products and have been very please with how light and natural they feel and look. If you are looking for something sold in drugstores, I recommend buying from Walgreens - if it breaks you out or you just don't like it, they will take it back with a full return, no questions asked. Great way to try a new product - I've only had to return a few items - highly sensitive skin - but I have never had an issue.

I have really sensitive skin and very dry as well. I don't wear a lot of make up either, but lately I have been using Loreal's true match naturale gentle mineral makeup. It is a powder foundation it even has spf. I really like it. I put on my moisturizer and let is soak in for a few min. and then apply this. It doesn't seam to dry it out at all, but the coverage is really nice and even.
Good luck!

I've never used them, but I think there is such a thing as tinted moisturizers. Something like that might work for you.

Try Sephora.com (most products have customer reviews), and/or stop in to the Sephora store in the Fashion Place mall or there's one inside JCPenney (Riverdale store and possibly the District? has them). Tell them what you want, and they should be able to find something to perfectly match your skin (that's what I did). I was using a Clinique product for years, until they discontinued it. I now use a Lorac product (a Sephora 'brand'), that has a nice light coverage (my skin sounds very much like yours - including the freckles). Although the stuff is not cheap, since I use so little of it, it tends to last a good 6 months per bottle - perhaps more, since I can't even remember the last time I bought one. I absolutely love the Sephora brand mascara BTW, since you mentioned you use that... I also saw they have tinted moisturizers on Sephora.com... never tried one though. Good Luck.

Arbonne is great. They don't use mineral oil in any of the products it draws out the natural moisture in our skin. We also have a product that can help with blemishes and freckles and age spots. I am PMing you my contact info if you are interested in knowing more or trying a sample.

I wear little or no makeup most of the time, and Mary Kay makes a tinted moisturizer that works well for me. It provides a little coverage without being heavy at all. You might also take a look at the mineral powder version of foundation. I haven't tried them myself, but I have girlfriends who use them and like them.

Just go with a tinted moisturizer, Aveeno makes a good one as does Clinique. I like to mix the tinted moisturizer with my regular moisturizer, otherwise my skin will feel dry.

mineral powders would be good to try. I use Aveeno tinted moisturizer and LOVE it. You could even use it over another moisturizer for extra moisturizing.

I use a hydrating daily moisturizer by Bobbi Brown and then a tinted moisturizer over it. I love it! I have an oil free cover up stick in case in need to spot any blemishes.

Hi! I also have really dry skin, I only wash my face at night and apply three moisturizers - a Mary Kay refresher gel, followed by a light lotion then Carrots daytime lotion. I don't like a ton of makeup either so I just use Bare Minerals on top of all that. A light primer followed by a light powder. Evens everything out but I still feel like me! :)

I have dry skin, I use Mary Kay Extra Emollient Cleansing Cream to take off my make up, it is much like a thick vaseline. It is very hard to find, they may not even make it anymore.

I like the mineral powders. They are very light and conceal a great deal. It is often hard to find the perfect shade though so don't be discouraged. I wear one color in winter and a different hue in summer.

Try mixing your favorite moisturizer on the top of your hand with your foundation. Then apply as usual.
