Make up That's Good for Acne

I am 31 years old and still have problems with acne. Proactiv works really well at keeping it in check, but when I'm pregnant the acne gets worse. (I am in my third trimester now.) I am still using Proactiv now and it works great- as long as I don't wear any make-up. Well, obviously, that affects my self esteem. I know Proactiv doesn't work for everyone, but it works great for me! My question is to those that use Proactiv or a benzoyl peroxide medicine for their acne- what brand/type of make-up do you use? I currently use Clinique's Clarifying Base, but they changed the formula.... I use Avon's Mineral Powder. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would also prefer the make-up to be cheaper if possible, but would like all suggestions. Thanks ahead of time!

I also use Proactive and love. Used it while prego both times.

Clinique make a make up for acne prone skin that I use and love. Everything else breakes me out.

Go to a Clinique counter and ask.

I am 34 and still have acne issues. I use Bare Minerals, have for years. I have even noticed when I start getting breakouts if I wear the minerals it helps clear them up. Just be sure to regularly wash your makeup brushes with warm soapy water and let air dry. My only gripe is I wish it was not so expensive. All makeup seems to be more expensive now days!

The mineral ones are the best for bad skin. I have rosacea and they work well for me.

I like the Avon make-up (I am a rep; my very low-maintenance SIL just started using the mineral make-up and likes it), but honestly - I think you should just skip the base.

You say the Proactive works as long as you don't wear make-up. So....don't wear make-up (I know, I know, Avon would love me for this, ha ha).

Do your eyeliner, your mascara, whatever else you like to wear, and leave the base alone for awhile. I bet you look fine.

p.s. If you really want to wear a base, look at Avon's Mark line. It's probably better for acne-prone skin.

Jane Iredale mineral makeup is the best I've seen for acne. Their pressed powder is awesome for oily/acne prone skin. Kind of pricy, but totally worth it.

Avon even has a brand of the "bare minerals" type make up, I use the kind that is L'Oreals brand called Bare Natural I think...its a powder form and I love it, it has great coverage and it does not make me break out more...I think my face has gotten so much better from using it instead of the liquid foundation. I have been using it since January of last year. I especially like the smaller container of the under eye/cover up...it will make even your reddest blemish invisible = )

My dermatologist had me try Studio Fix powder by MAC. I love it. It covers very well for a powder and I have not used foundation in 3 years. I did recently buy Physician's Formula Organic Wear tinted moisturizer for days I want more coverage, but really just like to wear the powder alone. I like the MAC concealer as well. You use it with a brush so your fingertips don't touch. I also sometimes use the Nuetrogena powder in the gray case, but it does not last near as long as MAC. Mac is about $25 and it lasts me over two months, and I use a lot!!

I used to use BareMinerals and loved it. I recently had a consultation with a friend of mine who has become a Mary Kay consultant. I like their mineral make up better. I would suggest you get a consultation and if you like it, purchase it off ebay. It's a little cheaper.

It could be that the sponge or applicator is transfering bacteria from face or fingers back into your make-up. After the make-up gets contaminated, you are just spreading the bacteria across your face. Use a different, throw-away applicator everyday. I've used Bare Minerals for years, but don't have experience with acne. You might also try a HYDRA-FACIAL. It is what Leonardo DeCaprio and Beyonce are doing. I had one done at ME HD in Keller Town Center. It's done with a little suction device - - almost like a carpet steam cleaner for the face - - but a cool liquid with Vit. C and E is pushed into your pores, swirled around, then sucked back out along with the stuff clogging the pores. It is pricey ~ $150+ - - but if you get 5 friends to do it, you'll get one free.

I've heard gloMinerals makeup is really good.

A cleansing facial to get rid of all the bacteria that's causing the acne really helped me when I was pregnant. I was so relieved and thrilled the next morning after my aesthetician cleared out my pores! I'm a big believer in facials now.

Neutrogena skin-clearing is affordable and helps resolve problems rather than contributing like typical make-up.

I've had very good luck after switching to BareMinerals. It's not cheap, but it lasts a pretty long time.

I tried ProActive, however, it did not work for me. But I liked Bare Minerals for awhile. But I thought the price was outrageous! I think it ended up costing like $30 or more a month! And the "3 month" supply that you receive was not quite lasting the whole 3 months....

I now use MAC. It is a little expensive but WAY cheaper than ProActive. It's a high end brand though and covers pretty well and does NOT cause extra breakouts for me.......

PS> I am 27 and still struggle with acne as well. I don't know anyone personally who has as much trouble as I do (if that gives you a picture of what I'm dealing with......)

Neutrogena has a foundation that is made for acne... and it's affordable! I love it! I use a light lotion on my face, then the foundation. I used to have pretty bad acne, but when I started using that it cleared up. (I used to use an acne clearing "system" as well, just a lesser-known brand and they had no issues when used together) Now the only time I get more than one random zit at a time is when I have my "menstrual acne" and even that is a total of 4-5... :)
