Hello,
Have you tried a mineral makeup like the bareminerals? I stopped wearing foundation because my face would not stay clear. I ordered some Bareminerals for my duaghter and she talked me into trying them. I really love the coverage and the breakouts stopped. The foundation is so light you really don't feel like you are wearing makeup.

I'm sure you have already gotten a hit back on this one... I actually (sorta) sell Mary Kay. I started using it when I developed skin problems while pregnant and decided to sign up as a consultant. I SWEAR by the skin care. The make up is actually GREAT too, but I'm not a huge make up person. (hence the only sorta on selling the stuff). I have skin care stock, since I use it exclusively. I'd always used Clinique and Origins prior, but switched to Mary Kay for skin care and what little makeup I do use at a friends urging. I tried it, and love it. And, if it's something I don't have, a friend of mine actually does it full time and is very professional. my email is ____@____.com, I check email pretty religiously
Hope that helps.

I've never used Mary Kay...but if you are already being ignored and your daughter has an acne problem, I would recommend Natural Mineral make up of some sort. There are lots of brands - one I found on Mamasource, lets you order samples for $2 - http://www.ktnaturals.com
I was happy with how fast it shipped and it wasn't the 1st type I tried, but I was very happy with the product as well. The prices are very reasonable - cheaper than some of the nationally known brands.

Good morning Lori, I just had a Motives make-up party over the weekend and most of my friends brought their teenage daughters, we had so much fun! Anyway the Motives skin care and make-up line is wonderful. The two artists I had here did custom blend foundations on everyone, plus skin care. The foundations turned out great on the girls, gives them a very natural, fresh looking face. There are custom blend mineral powders and blush available too. The Motives line is featured on Elle.com and will be in Rachel Ray's magazine coming out the end of this month. If you would like more info (right away) please contact me, my number is ###-###-#### or email me, thanks, M. : )

Lori -

The best treatment for acne is a home remedy. Don't waste your money on treatments like ProActive, Arbonne or others . They all work, but not as well or as quickly or as cheaply as this:

1/2 cup salt
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 tsp Tea Tree oil
Extra virgin olive oil

Use just enough olive oil to mix this into a paste. Have your daughter put this paste on her skin for 5 minutes at night, then rinse it off with luke warm water. In less than 2 weeks the acne will be gone. Use Bare Minerals (the real kind, not the copies) or Aveda foundation for a few weeks during the day. After that, see how her skin looks and feels. If it is healed and not in need of more treatments, she could try another foundation.

I would have her try Bare Minerals. It allows your skin to breath and it won't clog pores. It also provides great coverage if she goes through bad hormonal breakouts that no rememdy is going to prevent. So at least she can feel good about her face while dealing with acne and also know that her skin will not get worse.

Take her to the mall and get her skin tested for the right color. Then the most affordable option for starting out is to order everything online or over the phone. Make sure they do not sign you up for automatical refilss each month unless you want it. The starter kit is great and then you can get the refills of products you needs as you run low.

Hi Lori,

I'm not sure about their liquid foundation, but their powder foundation has Talc in it, so not sure if it would be the best for acne prone skin. I sure love their mascara though!

The Motives line of cosmetics that can be customized for individual skin tones and types, from Market America has high quality all natural, Fluid Silk Liquid Foundation that is water soluable http://www.marketamerica.com/kimkalin/index.cfm?action=sh... and a hydrating mineral powder that contains no talc and is easy and quick to apply http://www.marketamerica.com/kimkalin/index.cfm?action=sh.... Both of these types of foundations have been good for the acne prone skin. I've included the links so that you can check them out for yourself.

Market America also has an excellent line of skin products specific targeted for acne prone skin. The Timeless Prescription 3-step Acne care system, http://www.marketamerica.com/kimkalin/index.cfm?action=sh... helps to prepare and treat her skin before and after taking off her make-up. You can check out the benefits and ingredients of each of these products so you know what is in them and how they work. If you are interested in any products for helping to treat acne from the inside out let me know and I will get the information to you. My niece uses Ashanti Beauty Blend to help her skin along with the Motives cosmetics and she has seen great results. http://www.marketamerica.com/kimkalin/index.cfm?action=sh...

Motives is an excellent line of natural cosmetics. Please let me know if I can be assistance to you.

I wish you the best.

Here's another: "How about this?" response;

BareMinerals in Nordstroms @ the Northgate mall, or in it's own shop in BelleSquare Bellevue. Of course, they're online, too...but I personally prefer things in person to start off with. Especially with anything involving color.

I used clinique for years and loved it (except for the price), but BareMinerals is even better for my skin. Clear like before puberty when I'm using it. My skin is NEVER clear, otherwise. It's particularly great for young people though...since its one flaw is that it highlights fine lines and wrinkles...and they don't HAVE any! :) Oh...incedentally...for me wearing it every day the little jars last for about 3 months. Which makes it less expensive then L'oreal.

Do not buy Mary Kay for covering up acne. MK causes acne! Use a mineral makeup by L'Oreal or Bare Escentuals or www.larenim.com or make up by Paula Begoun (google her). I have battled Acne since I was 13. Go to your physician and get her on a prescription treatment schecdule. Retin-A, Differin and some basic cleansers will go a long way. Good luck.

Hi Lori,
You'll want to be cautious about any products that have a petroleum/mineral oil base. Also be cautious of foundations with tallow, which is an animal by-product. All of these things will clog the pores and make acne worse, as well as interfere with the skins ability to function optimally.
I am a consultant with Arbinne International and we have a number of products that would benefit your daughter.
If you are looking for skin care, we have the Clear Advantage skin care line. This is a 3-step acne line that has a nutritional supplement w/ L-Lysine. Thios is the line my 12-year old daughter uses to control her acne and it has provided amazing results. We also have the Intelligence Skin Care Line. This is a self-adjusting skin care line formulated for people 15-30 years of age.
We also have a number of choices for make-up and foundations. Our FYI Line (For Young Individuals) has a tinted moisturizer. This provides a moderate amount of coverage in a moisturizer with an SPF 15. We also have liquid and mineral powder foundations in 15 shades with an SPF of 15 as well.
All of our products use essential oils, instead of mineral oil/petroleum so the products won't clog the pores. We have no tallow/animal byproducts. We have no talc. Instead, we use clear mineral pigments so our colors stay true.
For more information, you can go to my website at www.nursekerry.myarbonne.com. You may order directly from the site or contact me for more information. Products will be sent directly to you and you will usually receive them in 3-5 days.
Good Luck!

Make up from any company can make acne worse.

The best solution is to keep skin clean & well moisturized! The drier the skin - the more oil it produces - causing more acne.

Don't waste $ on top brands. I use Dove bars for cleansing & Kiss My Face lotions - made from Aloe & Olive Oil.

I still get occasional pimples - I treat them with Burt's Bees blemish stick. A dab of Visine will help with redness. A dab of St. Yves Eye Stress Gel will help with swelling.

The simpler the better!!!

Hi Lori =) I have the same problem as your daughter. acne didn't start for me until college but has followed me into adulthood. First of all, proactiv saved my life. My skin is so much better now and I only get small blemishes occasionally, instead of all over my face all the time. I would definitely reccommend that along with a very good make up. Mary Kay is not guilty of false advertising. They were the best makeup I used until I moved up here and got too pale to use any of their colors =). My husband ordered bare minerals for me and it is THE best for acne prone skin. I now have two children and use the proactiv much less than I should just beacuse I'm too tired at night most of the time (I know that's terrible and almost no excuse) to wash my face. But Bare Minerals advertises that you can sleep in their make up. You can. My acne breakouts have lessened since I started using it (even thought I use my proactiv less and actually sleep in my make up) It also lasts longer. sometimes about about the consistency of the make up makes it cover better with less. Also, no matter how much I've accidentally or on purpose put on I've never suffered from that awful pancake face look. It's a little more expensive than Mary Kay, but lasts longer and is way better for your skin. I don't know where you are located, but Bare Minerals is sold online, OR there is a store at Bellevue Square and Nordstrom in Tacoma Mall has a counter. These are good options because your daughter can even try it before she decides if she like it or not. Also, if you buy off the internet they have a liberal satisfactions gaurantee as well. It's a full line, too, foundation, blush, brozer, eye shadow, you name it, they've got it. Also, Proactiv is the same way, online, or they have kiosks in Tacoma Mall and I THINK Olympia. Oh yeah, when I use the Proativ as directed, I don't NEED to wear make-up. If I didn't have two kids, and thus dark circles like youw ouldn't believe, I probably would only wear make up on special occasions. I hope this isn't too rambling. It's silly but I really believe in both Bare Minerals and Proactiv, they've saved my skin.

I personally can't use Mary Kay...I break out where ever it touches my skin. If you are going to spend that kind of money..look at something mild (no mary kay is not mild, it is very heavy) like Clinique. Even talking to a cosmetic consultant at a high-end department store would give you good information. They are usually trained in the products they sell, and could give information on a wide range of products.

I had bad acne as a teen and into my early twenties. I tried a lot of different company's products and spent way too much trying to find something that worked. I like Mary Kay's make up but hate the face cleansing products, my skin is horrible after using them.

First, I would change consultants if she is not responding. There are plenty of great ones out there.

Second, unless she has major blemishes she is trying to cover, I would not recommend your daughter to wear foundation. I almost never do, and have received compliments from professional make-up artists about the quality of my skin. Just a thought, I know it is necessary sometimes/all the time for some people, but if she can get by without it her skin will be way better off.
