Hello Ladies,
I am currently 8 weeks pregnant and my doctor just called me to tell me that my progesterone levels were low (about 7-8). I'm now taking progesterone suppositories but I was wondering, has anyone had low levels of progesterone and had a healthy full term baby? I need some positive responses to get me through the next few weeks. Thanks

Hey S.,

First let me commend you for having another baby while you have a 15 month old!Second, I didn't have low P levels but a friend did and she was worried just like you but she kept going to her doctor and any questions she had she asked. Now my friend had her baby in Feb. and she was a beautiful happy, healthy baby! She is now going on 8 months and she is just as happy, healthy and gorgeous! Relax and I hope this helped!

Hi S.,

I went through the same thing for two pregnancies. The first time that this happened, I unfortunately had to have a D&C at 10 weeks. The fetus was not growing at the normal rate and the heart had stopped beating.
During my second pregnancy, everything started off the same way as the first. I decided to seek a second opinion because our insurance company did not cover the suppositories and they were a little over $90.00. We opted to see a new OB/GYN closer to our home since it could have became a difficult pregnancy. My first OB/GYN had been practicing for many, many yrs, and was an older MD. My new OB/GYN is young and had actually just written an article on the topic. I was informed that unfortunately, it is actually up to your body to determine how much progesterone is produced. If it does not produce enough on it's own, then there is a specific reason for it. He advised me to stop taking the suppositories and wait it out to see what happens. After talking it through, we decided to take his advice, since the first time around, it did nothing for us. Guess what, my body produced it on it's own, it was just taking it's time to do so. I can however tell you, that the first 9.5 weeks were exactly the same, so we thought we would have to go through it for a second time.
My son was born at 38 weeks weighing 6lbs3oz and 19 1/4 inches long. He is now 37.5 in and 32lbs at 2.5yrs old, pretty healthy if I say so myself. ;-)
**Note: Insurances really do not cover progesterone suppositories because there is not enough research available to prove that this helps to keep a pregnancy viable.

Hope this gives you some comfort. Best of luck and congratulations.
D.

Hi S.,
I am 36.5 weeks pregnant and I had low progesterone at the beginning of this pregnancy and had to take progesterone pills during the first trimester. All has been fine and I expect to deliver a healthy baby sometime in the next four weeks.
All the best!

Hi S.,

I too had low progesterone levels and had to take the suppositories. I had two full term pregnacys. One in 2000 and another in 2007. The babies were very healthy at birth and I had no side effects during. Your pregnancy is going to go by so quick. YOu probably think I'm nuts but it will. Enjoy it. Pamper yourself, It's one of the most special times in your life. Don't worry everything is going to be fine. Best of luck and much happiness.

Make sure your doctor monitors your progesterone levels weekly. If it remains low on the suppositories He will probably switch you to pills. There are also injections taht are used for women who have had fertility treatments. I had a frien w/low progesterone who took pills for low progesterone and had a totally normal pregnancy and healthy baby.

Good luck

Hi S.,
I had very low progesterone levels before and after conceiving my first and second child. I supplemented with vaginal suppositories and it worked very well for me! It was a little annoying to have to do but thankfully I had two beautiful baby boys! I know if I didn't supplement I was at high risk for miscarriage. Hang in there it is so important to keep your levels high.

Many Blessings to you and your new pregnancy,
A.

Hi S.,

My levels were very low also when I found out I was pregnant with my 1st child back here in 2006. I had found out I was pregnant very early I was about 5 weeks. My dr. put me on progreserone medication for my 1st trimester and I had to go get my blood drawn at least 1 or twice a week for the 1st two weeks after finding out I was pregnant. Anyway all was good for me. I came off my the medication into my 2nd trimester and I had a healthly baby boy who is a little over 2 1/2 months, he will be 3 in January.

I was scared out of my mind to know that my progeserone levels were low but everything worked out.

Good luck,

V.

I also had to take progesterone for both of my pregnancies during the first trimester. It was completely safe. My daughter was born at 8 lbs the day before her due date. I am now pregnant (about 6 months) with a little boy, and he seems to be doing absolutely fine!

Good luck with everything!

I had the same thing with both my children. And with both they put me on the moment I found out I was pregnant. With my daughter I went into early labor for other reasons and I still had her at 38 weeks. With my son He was born in a wheelchair at 39 weeks. Both were very healthy. Now they are 4 1/2 and almost 2

Hi there. I had to take progesterone suppositories with both of my pregnancies. I took them for about a month. I am due with my second child, a son, in 5 weeks, and everything looks good. My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and she was a healthy, full term baby. I know that it is scary to hear that a level is low, but follow your doctor's instructions and you will be okay. It is very common to have low progesterone levels. If you need any more support, send me a message.

S. I had the same thing when I was pregnant with my daughter and she was born completely healthy at 39 weeks by C-section. She is now 2 1/2 and has had no problems at all. I know this can be a stressful time but just know that you are doing all you can for your baby and try and hang in there.

My progesterone levels never went above 10 even when I was on a progesterone suppository. I now have a healthy, happy 2.5 year old.

Yes,I had low progesterone levels and had 2 healthy babies. My doc put me on progesterone, but I think I took it orally. Take the progeterone, DONT get stressed out. If you feel something isn't right don't be shy to press the doctor on it. good luck.

Yes, when I was pregnant with my second child, my progesterone was 1.9... the lowest my OB had ever seen. I did the progesterone suppositories and now that baby takes the bus to kindergarten. :)

Good luck to you!
