Low Progesterone Level - Around 5 Weeks Pregnant.

After nearly 6 months of trying, we did FOUR pregnancy tests this passed weekend and they were ALL positive! Went to the doc Tuesday; did quantitative blood tests: Progesterone 8.5, HCG 1789. PRO. is low...they took more blood this morning to see if the levels have doubled like they want. If not, the've mentioned giving me progesterone to take. They also want to schedule an early sonogram to see how the sac is forming and find out exactly how far along I am. My LMP began on 1/26. That puts me around 5 weeks. Anyone had similar levels? Any advice on taking progesterone? This is all new to me. I have three children already...never had any difficulties with any of those pregnancies...all born 40+ wks, all healthy & perfect. Never had a miscarriage before; no abortions ever.

Thank you in advance for your time in responding! <3

So What Happened?

3/4...Dr. office called. Progesterone went down to 7.2. Going to do suppositories. My HCG doubled to 3705. So that's good.

Thank you all for the information and kind words! I'm praying that God's will be done. Of course, being human I want the baby to make it. I'm going to do all I can. If that's not enough, it's just not meant to be. :) Never giving up!

3/7 Going to the doctor today; possibly going to schedule a sonogram. I'm around 5 weeks 5 days, today. I've been doing the progesterone suppositories. All is well for the moment. Feeling ok! I'll keep updating.

3/7 Went to the doc, had sonogram. The baby seems to be forming well. Gestational sac and ball of cells clearly visible. :) Docsays everything is looking good. I will have more blood work done on Wednesday to see how my progesterone is progressing.

3/10 Awaiting the results of my blood testing from yesterday. Praying those progesterone levels are going up like they should be!
Results: Progesterone is still doing down. Down to 6.7 now. Going in for the next three business days for progesterone injections and am supposed to double up on my suppositories.

I did pregesterone with both pregnancies. I had trouble conceiving with the first and my levels were low also...did progesterone suppositories for the first trimester and had a healthy baby.

The second we got pregnant by surprise and Doctor gave me progesterone supposotiores again to make sure.

Progesterone is basically "super glue" that makes the pregnancy stick...with low levels it can make the baby not attach to the wall as welll. That is what I undrestood it to be. Congrats and don't worry about the progesterone thing...it is easy and so simple compared to other issues!!

When you get the tests back, you will know for sure. If it doubles, that's great and you are probably just not as far along as you think. That did happen to me. It was really scary because my levels were a lot lower than they should have been and they couldn't find anything during the U/S. They thought it was ectopic. A week later, another U/S was performed and there was the sac. We just caught the pregnancy really, really early!! However, miscarriage is very common so that is a possibility (but from what you describe, there is really no need to panic about it at this point because it sounds promising to me...based on my experience anyway). My friend took progesterone with one of her children. She has a very healthy and wonderful 5 yr old now!

I would ask about doing the shots. They are better than the suppositories. Good luck!!

I had one normal pregnancy and then 2 miscarriages before the Dr. figured out it was due to low progesterone levels. I had to use progesterone with last 2 pregnancies for the first trimester. After that, the progesterone levels will come up on their own. The result, I have a beautiful, healthy 24 yo dtr.and and awesome 21 yo son. (+my oldest son!!) I thank God every day for that progesterone!!!!

I used progesterone with my daughter because my progesterone numbers dropped. It worked great. If they suggest you use it, don't worry!
