Lost "The Plug", Taking a Brief Survey :)

Hi guys -- I'm 38 weeks 2 days pregnant, lost The Plug on Monday morning and have been having the usual braxton contractions every 20 mins, sometimes up to an hour will go by though... From the brief overview I've taken of my family and girlfriends, it seems that most of the women I know went into labor about 2 - 3 days after the stopper came out of the bottle, as it were.

Am just looking for a little encouragement, i guess, as now it's almost Wed night and i feel GREAT, fine, not at all like i'm going to go into labor at any minute. Would love to hear everyone's labor stories after they lost their plug. I've had 2 other children but both times my water broke, so am not quite sure what to expect...

THANKS for taking the time, just keep hoping today's the day, even though I know i can go a week, two or even 3-4 more! gaaaaaaa, the thought of going 3 or 4 more weeks just fries my brain...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses (personal and public). I know patience is in order here, else I will go nuts waiting, thinking every twinge is IT. Just keep thinking that w/ everyone I have heard from (family, friends, you guys), that it does seem to be within a week after the plug is lost, the onset of labor begins, so that's what i'll hope for, and promise not to become despondent if it doesn't, but i don't promise not to bitch and moan if i go beyond 39 weeks! har

Courtney K -- that's hilarious about your husband, we were thinking that mine should push me down the stairs, it works in the soap operas. Then i was thinking of taking long walks, but the thought of going into labor in some alley w/ the bummy guys really turns me off... hahahahaaa...

Hi Stacie B -- and thanks for the info. It does seem that when the plug comes loose labor begins shortly after, seems like within 2 - 4 days on the average. I'm a statistics sort of lady, and am playing the odds that bec. Cortney K went a few weeks, that I won't be the one to go a few weeks :) Yes, I was effaced 70% last Friday and dilated 1 cm, am back at doc in about an hour, and was up all night w/ what felt like the real thing again (every night from 130 - 330 or thereabout having contractions, but then they stop). This morning i don't feel so well, and still contracting a lot but they stil don't feel like the real thing. We'll see. THANKS to you all, I've rec'd a lot of responses. I'd love to collect more, I'm writing an article for a website (Suite101) about the onset of labor and statistics regarding the most typical signs. I know it will always be a mystery to the medical world how we go into labor, but I do so love the numbers involved. ANYWAY, thanks again everyone you are all so great. Please, anyone else, feel free to answer privately or publicly, i do thnk these sort of questions do help all women to feel less frustrated in the end. XOXO

THANKS LADIES, You are why i love Mamasource.

I went a week before labor started after losing the "stopper out of the bottle." (I love how you described it! :O) ) Sorry...I'm sure you were hoping for a shorter amount of time.

Remember...everyone and each pregnancy is SO different. Congrats and good luck!

I lose my plug weeks in advance...My hubby told me that I was like Heinz Katsup. He even joked by asking where he should hit me to get things moving...LOL! It was in great fun so I was entertained. With my first I lost my plug at 32 weeks delivered at 37, and with my second lost it at 30 weeks and tried to deliver at 33, but she was a good girl and hung out till 37. It will happen soon, Congratulations!!!!

My midwife checked me at 38 weeks and some of my plug came out and I had my son 2 days later. But with my first I didn't lose it until I was in labor with her and I think when my water broke.
I'm not sure there is any correlation between when you lose it and when you go into labor. Take lots of walks and have sex. That should do it.
